    PERCEIVED RISK, PRICE AND ONLINE TRAVEL AGENCIES: DOES PRICE ALWAYS MATTER?

    The present study analyzes the influence of price level in the case of online shopping for travel services. The methodology used is a quasi experiment developed in the online environment. The analysis is made within groups and follows three scenarios which depend on the level of brand awareness. Inside each scenario price takes two levels: similar to competition and smaller than competition. Results show that price does not have an influence on all types of perceived risk and that its influence depends also on the brand awareness component.perceived risk, price, online travel agencies, e-commerce, e-tourism.

    How Design Plays Strategic Roles in Internet Service Innovation: Lessons from Korean Companies

    In order to survive in the highly competitive internet business, companies have to provide differentiated services that can satisfy the rapidly changing users’ tastes and needs. Designers have been increasingly committed to achieving user satisfaction by generating and visualizing innovative solutions in new internet service development. The roles of internet service design have expanded from a narrow focus on aesthetics into a more strategic aspect. This paper investigates the methods of managing design in order to enhance companies’ competitiveness in internet business. The main research processes are to: (1) explore the current state of internet service design in Korea through in-depth interviews with professional designers and survey questionnaires to 30 digital design agencies and 60 clients; (2) compare how design is managed between in-house design groups and digital design agencies though the case studies of five Korean companies; and (3) develop a taxonomy characterizing four roles of designers in conjunction with the levels of their strategic contributions to internet service innovation: visualist, solution provider, concept generator, and service initiator. In addition, we demonstrate the growing contributions of the strategic use of design for innovating internet services, building robust brand equity, and increasing business performance.     Psychological elements explaining the consumer's adoption and use of a website recommendation system: A theoretical framework proposal

    The purpose of this paper is to understand, with an emphasis on the psychological perspective of the research problem, the consumer's adoption and use of a certain web site recommendation system as well as the main psychological outcomes involved. The approach takes the form of theoretical modelling. Findings: A conceptual model is proposed and discussed. A total of 20 research propositions are theoretically analyzed and justified. Research limitations/implications: The theoretical discussion developed here is not empirically validated. This represents an opportunity for future research. Practical implications: The ideas extracted from the discussion of the conceptual model should be a help for recommendation systems designers and web site managers, so that they may be more aware, when working with such systems, of the psychological process consumers undergo when interacting with them. In this regard, numerous practical reflections and suggestions are presented

    A Contribution to Theory Building for Mobile Marketing: Categorizing Mobile Marketing Campaigns through Case Study Research

    Marketing experts consider the mobile device as an extremely promising marketing tool as it supports them to cope with their major challenge: getting time and attention from customers. Current mobile marketing research mostly covers success factors and acceptance analysis. Categorization, when addressed, lacks in appropriate foundation and is not linked to objectives at all. In this article we examine 55 case studies in order to identify relevant characteristics of mobile marketing campaigns. The outcome of the paper is the derivation of four mobile marketing standard types and an examination of campaign objectives that can be addressed by mobile marketing. The proposed scheme allows to unambiguously characterize any given mobile marketing campaign and to identify the respective objectives.

    Legislative responses to data breaches and information security failures

    On July 23, 2008, the Payment Cards Center of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia hosted a workshop to discuss federal and state legislative responses to data breaches. The workshop addressed several laws and legislative initiatives designed to create greater safeguards for personal consumer information frequently targeted by data thieves and often subject to the failures of information security protocols. Diane Slifer, J.D., M.B.A., who has frequently presented at forums on data security and has represented clients in matters related to data breaches, led the workshop. Slifer examined several highly publicized data breaches and explained how various laws and regulations have been put in place in order to protect and inform consumers whose personal information has been compromised. Additionally, she discussed several legislative initiatives designed to potentially create a more structured and secure environment for private consumer data overall. This paper summarizes Slifer's presentation, the ensuing discussion, and additional Payment Cards Center research. In addition, it offers a brief overview of recent data breaches, a description of various ways that federal and state laws operate, and some thoughts on how effective these laws and regulations have been.Payment systems ; Identity theft ; Fraud ; Law and legislation

They document the extent of the diffusion in three main sectors of the economy: retail, services, and manufacturing.     Concern over online information privacy is widespread and rising. However, prior research is silent about the value of information privacy in the presence of potential benefits from sharing personally identifiable information. We analyzed individuals' trade-offs between the benefits and costs of providing personal information to websites. We found that benefits - monetary reward and future convenience - significantly affect individuals' preferences over websites with differing privacy policies. We also quantified the value of website privacy protection. Among U.S. subjects, protection against errors, improper access, and secondary use of personal information is worth US$30.49 - 44.62.     Investigating the Key Factor of Virtual Personal Brand in E-Commerce: A Case Study of “Myhomes”

    The new era of the Internet and e-commerce have introduced enormous amount of big data analysis and artificial intelligence to the world, and that bring better user experiences to consumers, and provide suppliers with a more systematic management. Since 2016, traditional e-commerce platforms encountered expansion bottlenecks, new sales approaches were launched, such as utilizing facebook fanpages for marketing and livestream to get more attentions. Companies and virtual personal brands also get exposures from social media Youtube, Instagram and etc., some individuals operate as self-media and called Youtubers, social influencer or key opinion leader economy. This self-media not only have changed how Internet marketing used to be, and subverted the ecology between Internet marketing and e-commerce. Therefore, this study aims to explore how virtual personal brand drives sales performance particularly in real estate agents by applying DeLone & McLean’s Information Systems Success Model to analysis success factors of Myhomes. The research reviews literature, interview platform users, and use study findings to evaluate how information system success model affect virtual personal brand positively, and why virtual personal brand is a significant ingredient for real estate agents to success

    Recommendation Subgraphs for Web Discovery

    Recommendations are central to the utility of many websites including YouTube, Quora as well as popular e-commerce stores. Such sites typically contain a set of recommendations on every product page that enables visitors to easily navigate the website. Choosing an appropriate set of recommendations at each page is one of the key features of backend engines that have been deployed at several e-commerce sites. Specifically at BloomReach, an engine consisting of several independent components analyzes and optimizes its clients' websites. This paper focuses on the structure optimizer component which improves the website navigation experience that enables the discovery of novel content. We begin by formalizing the concept of recommendations used for discovery. We formulate this as a natural graph optimization problem which in its simplest case, reduces to a bipartite matching problem. In practice, solving these matching problems requires superlinear time and is not scalable. Also, implementing simple algorithms is critical in practice because they are significantly easier to maintain in production. This motivated us to analyze three methods for solving the problem in increasing order of sophistication: a sampling algorithm, a greedy algorithm and a more involved partitioning based algorithm. We first theoretically analyze the performance of these three methods on random graph models characterizing when each method will yield a solution of sufficient quality and the parameter ranges when more sophistication is needed. We complement this by providing an empirical analysis of these algorithms on simulated and real-world production data. Our results confirm that it is not always necessary to implement complicated algorithms in the real-world and that very good practical results can be obtained by using heuristics that are backed by the confidence of concrete theoretical guarantees
