Affordable housing definitions and Section 106 contributions in England
This paper examines whether Local Planning Authority definitions of affordable housing provide adequate clarity with which to negotiate affordable housing contributions with private sector house builders. The paper updates Government research, Delivering Affordable Housing through Planning Policy (ODPM, 2002), by systematically interrogating the affordable housing definitions of 51 Local Planning Authorities in England. LPA housing and planning documents were scrutinised in respect of the local definition of affordable housing, whether it conformed to the Governments ‘new’ PPS3 definition, the thresholds set at which the requirement for affordable housing is triggered and the target level at which Section 106 contributions are set. The findings indicate that although Local Planning Authority definitions of affordable housing have improved in terms of their quality, precision and clarity, one in five LPAs still did not provide a concise definition of affordable housing
Genetic variation in plasma transferrins of tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum (CUVIER 1818)
Blood specimens of tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, an Amazonian fish of commercial importance, were examined for transferrin variants by treating blood plasma specimens with rivanol before electrophoretic analyses in starch gel media. A total of 6 co-dominant alleles at the transferrin locus in tambaqui was postulated to account for the 6 varieties of molecular components in 10 observed phenotypes. The population sample showed good genetic balance, characteristic of a unit stock
Using the Chapelhow Framework to Deliver Nursing Care.
Chapelhow et al. (2005) devised a framework consisting of six enablers which nurses must undertake to provide competent, objective and specialised nursing care. This case study focuses upon two enablers: assessment and communication, with reference to a patient’s journey when admitted to a gastroenterology ward. Assessment and communication are important aspects of providing nursing care and this is demonstrated throughout this case study. Furthermore, they interlink to provide efficient nursing care; however, both are not without limitations. This is further explored throughout this case study
How the Chapelhow Enablers Are Essential to the Delivery of Care
The Chapelhow framework was established around six enablers, these are assessment, communication, risk management, managing uncertainty, record keeping and documentation, professional judgement and decision making. These six enablers help to make up the foundations that all healthcare professionals need in order to develop their skills to the best potential to maximise the level of care delivered. This article will discuss two enablers, risk management and communication, in relation to the care of a 74 year old dementia patient. It was evident that these two enablers link together to provide holistic, patient-centred care and to highlight the importance of effective communication
Using the Chapelhow Framework to deliver patient care
The aim of this piece of work is to look at two enablers from Chapelhow et al.(2005), Communication and the effect gender has upon the individual and the importance of being able to actively listen but also when speaking knowing the importance of the choice of language used. As this can be the difference between therapeutic relationship for the patient or an incident due to the patient becoming agitated. The risk management and why it is a grey area surrounding positive risk. In conclusion it was found that more work needs to be done on the effect gender has upon communication such as male care providers upon female patients and what the grey areas are surrounding positive risk and how this is applied with risk management
Using Two Chapelhow Enablers To Deliver Care
This article will demonstrate how two of the six Chapelhow et al. (2005) enablers were utilised throughout the care of one individual. The two enablers that will be considered in this article will be communication and professional decision making. This article will use both experience from placement and current research to inform practice to demonstrate how these enablers were used in practice. Communication and professional decision making enable healthcare professionals to deliver effective and efficient care. This article aims to enable healthcare students to develop their understanding of how these two enablers are used in practice and to raise awareness of their importance
Why Chapelhow enablers are important when providing patient care
Chapelhow et al (2005) developed a framework based upon six fundamental concepts. These concepts are the building blocks that all healthcare professionals need in order to deliver patient care. Chapelhow et al (2005) refers to the concepts as enablers. There are six enablers, assessment, communication, risk management and managing uncertainty, professional judgement and decision making and documentation and record keeping. In this article, I look at two enablers; assessment and communication. I chose these two to discuss, because as a nurse these are essential skills to have when delivering patient care. It was apparent that both enablers are linked and are used together when caring for a patient and that assessment and communication skills are vital to have as a healthcare professional.
How Chapelhow Enablers Contribute To High Quality Care
The six Chapelhow enablers were developed to assist student nurses and other healthcare professionals to be able to develop essential skills needed for the successful delivery of care. These six enablers are assessment, communication, risk management, managing uncertainty, record keeping and documentation. This article discusses the preoperative care of a seventy-year-old patient undergoing cataract surgery, in relation to two enablers: assessment and communication. It will then discuss the factors which contribute to raised anxiety levels in the perioperative period, and how assessment and communication are linked. The article concludes with a discussion of the importance of holistic, person-centred care in reducing anxiety
The Importance of Assessment and Communication as Fundamental Skills of Nursing Practice
Chapelhow et al. (2005) stated nursing assessments are non-static. One of the aspects of the nursing assessment procedure is that a set of customised results are agreed, which can be achieved through established teamwork and efficient communication. The Chapelhow Framework was established around six enablers: assessment, communication, risk management, managing uncertainty, record keeping and documentation, professional judgement and decision making. These enablers help healthcare professionals including student nurses to develop their skills to the best of their ability to deliver holistic and person-centred care. This article will discuss two of the enablers: assessment and communication, exploring the importance of effective assessment and communication, and the barriers highlighted in delivering and upholding the duty of care in the health sector
Unraveling the Impact of Cognitive Test Anxiety on Academic Performance among Adolescents: The case of minority and majority communities
Background: Within the Indian society and its many communities, adolescents exhibit a wide range of individual differences, including cognitive abilities, learning styles, and personality traits. These differences can influence how students perceive and cope with test anxiety and related stress. Objective: The primary goal of this research study was to investigate the influence of cognitive test anxiety on academic performance in adolescents from both minority (Muslims) and majority (Hindus) communities in India. Method: Based on descriptive-inferential research design, a sample of 450 students was selected, with 223 students representing the majority community and the remaining 227 students representing the minority community. The participants were drawn randomly from various schools in Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Finding: The findings of the study indicated a significant influence of cognitive test anxiety on the academic performance of both minority and majority community adolescents. Conclusion: On the bases of findings, it may be concluded that the influence of cognitive test anxiety on academic performance among adolescents of minority and majority communities is a complex as well significant issue, where socio-cultural factors, educational environment, and individual differences do contribute to cognitive test anxiety experienced by students
