Filtered OFDM systems, algorithms and performance analysis for 5G and beyond
Filtered orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (F-OFDM) system is a promising waveform for 5G and beyond to enable multi-service system and spectrum efficient network slicing. However, the performance for F-OFDM systems has not been systematically analyzed in literature. In this paper, we first establish a mathematical model for F-OFDM system and derive the conditions to achieve the interference-free one-tap channel equalization. In the practical cases (e.g., insufficient guard interval, asynchronous transmission, etc.), the analytical expressions for inter-symbol-interference (ISI), inter-carrier-interference (ICI) and adjacent-carrier-interference (ACI) are derived, where the last term is considered as one of the key factors for asynchronous transmissions. Based on the framework, an optimal power compensation matrix is derived to make all of the subcarriers having the same ergodic performance. Another key contribution of the paper is that we propose a multi-rate F-OFDM system to enable low complexity low cost communication scenarios such as narrow band Internet of Things (IoT), at the cost of generating inter-subband-interference (ISubBI). Low computational complexity algorithms are proposed to cancel the ISubBI. The result shows that the derived analytical expressions match the simulation results, and the proposed ISubBI cancelation algorithms can significantly save the original F-OFDM complexity (up to 100 times) without significant performance los
Intelligent optical performance monitor using multi-task learning based artificial neural network
An intelligent optical performance monitor using multi-task learning based
artificial neural network (MTL-ANN) is designed for simultaneous OSNR
monitoring and modulation format identification (MFI). Signals' amplitude
histograms (AHs) after constant module algorithm are selected as the input
features for MTL-ANN. The experimental results of 20-Gbaud NRZ-OOK, PAM4 and
PAM8 signals demonstrate that MTL-ANN could achieve OSNR monitoring and MFI
simultaneously with higher accuracy and stability compared with single-task
learning based ANNs (STL-ANNs). The results show an MFI accuracy of 100% and
OSNR monitoring root-mean-square error of 0.63 dB for the three modulation
formats under consideration. Furthermore, the number of neuron needed for the
single MTL-ANN is almost the half of STL-ANN, which enables reduced-complexity
optical performance monitoring devices for real-time performance monitoring
Channel Estimation And Multiuser Detection In Asynchronous Satellite Communications
In this paper, we propose a new method of channel estimation for asynchronous
additive white Gaussian noise channels in satellite communications. This method
is based on signals correlation and multiuser interference cancellation which
adopts a successive structure. Propagation delays and signals amplitudes are
jointly estimated in order to be used for data detection at the receiver. As, a
multiuser detector, a single stage successive interference cancellation (SIC)
architecture is analyzed and integrated to the channel estimation technique and
the whole system is evaluated. The satellite access method adopted is the
direct sequence code division multiple access (DS CDMA) one. To evaluate the
channel estimation and the detection technique, we have simulated a satellite
uplink with an asynchronous multiuser access.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure
