Information professionals and copyright literacy: a multinational study
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present findings from a multinational survey on copyright literacy of specialists from libraries and other cultural institutions.
Design/methodology/approach: This paper is based on a multinational survey of copyright literacy competencies of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals and those who work in the cultural heritage sector (archives and museums), conducted in 13 countries, namely Bulgaria (BG), Croatia (CR), Finland (FI), France (FR), Hungary (HU), Lithuania (LT), Mexico (MX), Norway (NO), Portugal (PT), Romania (RO), Turkey (TR), UK and USA in the period July 2013-March 2015. An online survey instrument was developed in order to collect data from professionals regarding their familiarity with, knowledge and awareness of, and opinions on copyright-related issues.
Findings: Findings of this study highlight gaps in existing knowledge of copyright, and information about the level of copyright literacy of LIS and cultural sector professionals. Also attitudes toward copyright learning content in academic education and continuing professional development training programs are investigated.
Originality/value: This study aimed to address a gap in the literature by encompassing specialists from the cultural institutions in an international comparative context. The paper offers guidance for further understanding of copyright in a wider framework of digital and information literacy; and for the implementation of copyright policy, and the establishment of copyright advisor positions in cultural institutions. The recommendations support a revision of academic and continuing education programs learning curriculum and methods
The Challenges and Strategies to Improve Family-centered Round: a Literature Review
The importance of family-centered care and the role of families in decision making are becoming more recognized today. Several studies have supported the implementation of family-centered care and its role in enhancing quality of care. Family-centered rounds are one of family centered model of care that brings together multidisciplinary team as well as family to discuss the patient's condition and care management, coordinate the patient's care management, and make decisions on care plan for the patient (Sisterhen et al., 2007, Aronson et al., 2009). As part of innovations to enhance family-centered care, family-centered rounds have been adopted and implemented in many hospitals. This model of rounds is popular and widely applied in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care unit (Aronson et al., 2009, Kleiber et al., 2006, Mittal et al., 2010). However, other units have also begun to implement it (Schiller and Anderson, 2003, Mangram et al., 2005). The benefits of family-centered rounds have been presented in several studies. They reported that family-centered rounds have been improved communication between staff and family members (Mittal et al., 2010, Jacobowski et al., 2010, Rosen et al., 2009, Vazirani et al., 2005), understanding of the patient's care plan (Rosen et al., 2009), staff and family satisfaction (Rappaport et al., 2010, Rosen et al., 2009); and decreased need for care plan clarification (Rosen et al., 2009)
Challenges for the Adoption of Model-Driven Web Engineering Approaches in Industry
Model-driven web engineering approaches have become an attractive research and technology solution for
Web application development. However, after 20 years of development, they have attracted little attention
from the Industry due to the mismatch between technical versus research requirements. In this joint work
between academia and industry, the authors present the current problems of using these approaches in scale
and provide guidelines to convert them into viable industry solutions.Ministerio de ciencia e Innovación TIN2016-76956-C3-2-RMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2015-71938-RED
Challenges of mentorship
Mentorship is the fourteenth series of ‘Midwifery basics’ targeted at practising midwives. It aims to provide information to raise awareness of the impact of the work of midwives on student learning and ultimately on women’s experience and encourage midwives to seek further information through a series of activities. In this sixth article Charlotte Kenyon, Stephen Hogarth and Joyce Marshall consider some of the challenges to mentorship and possible solutions to these
Advanta: Worldwide challenges
Includes bibliographical references.Advanta, headquartered in the Netherlands, is the sixth largest seed company in the
world. It sells seeds for a broad range of field crops in many different regions. While the company is committed to applying biotechnology in plant breeding, it is faced with many uncertainties due to political reluctance on regulatory decisions and to low public acceptance in Europe
Supernova neutrino challenges
A principal `supernova neutrino challenge' is the computational difficulty of
six-dimensional neutrino radiation hydrodynamics. The variety of resulting
approximations has provoked a long history of uncertainty in the core-collapse
supernova explosion mechanism, but recent work highlighting low-mode convection
and a newly-recognized instability in spherical accretion shocks may signal
(yet another) resolution. As part of its goal of elucidating the explosion
mechanism, the Terascale Supernova Initiative is committed to meeting the full
complexity of the computational challenge. The understanding of supernova
neutrino emission gained in detailed simulations provides a potential basis for
learning about two major remaining unknowns in neutrino flavor mixing: the
value of the mixing angle , and distinguishing between ``normal''
and ``inverted'' mass hierarchies.Comment: 6 pages. Contribution to the proceedings of NOW2004, Conca
