A Case Report of Case Report Pursuit by Medical Student

Medical students often seek case reports as vehicles for academic writing opportunities, conference presentation avenues, and residency/fellowship application highlights. Here we review a case where, due to unfortunate circumstances, a student made a unique diagnosis central to proper patient clinical care, wished to write up the case subsequently, but was ultimately excluded from the final work stemming from the patient case. We review the pitfalls that occurred in the process of pursuing publication of an interesting case, the educational value of pursuing case reports for students, the necessity for strong mentorship in this process, and general principles that medical students can follow regarding case report creation to avoid being burned

Amyand’s hernia : a case report

The presence of vermiform appendix, whether normal or inflamed in the inguinal hernia, is referred to as Amyand’s hernia. This is rare occurring in about 1% of inguinal hernias in adults. This is a report of Amyand’s hernia, which presented as a component along with partially necrotic omentum with metastasis in a 75 year old male patient. Case report : Williams-Campbell syndrome

Background: Williams-Campbell syndrome is a rare type of bronchiectasis that is due to deficiency or absence of cartilage in the fourth- to sixth-order bronchi. Case Report: The paper presents the case of a patient with large, bilateral bronchiectasis caused by defect of cartilage in the fourth- to sixth-order bronchi referred to as Williams-Campbell syndrome. Conclusions: Williams-Campbell syndrome should be taken into consideration in differential diagnosis of bronchiectasis. Both inspiratory and expiratory high-resolution computed tomography should be performed to establish the diagnosis

Empty nose syndrome : case report

Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS) is a term first introduced by Kern and Moore which is used to describe a rare spectrum of various symptoms suffered by patients who had had previous radical turbinate surgery with a CT scan appearance of the paranasal sinuses after gross tissue loss. The most common symptom is so- called ‘‘paradoxical’’ nasal obstruction, reported by the patient despite objectively permeable cavities on clinical examination with no obstacle found on imaging or rhinomanometry and acoustic rhinometry.1 In most cases, the inferior turbinate (IT) has been resected radically even though middle turbinate (MT) resection has also been implicated.2 Incidence is unknown, as there have been no specific studies published.
