Detection of hydrocarbon contaminants in groundwater systems
We present a study of groundwater contaminants from infiltration of heavy hydrocarbon pollution sources. This study primarily focuses on the volatile and non-volatile components of crude and processed oils. Many storage terminals and buried pipelines have experienced historical failures and present industrialized Northwest Indiana with a source of legacy pollution. We examine the aqueous phase and gas phase components of crude and diesel oils for identification of groundwater matrix markers from hydrocarbon emulsions

The FDA as Portrayed in Fiction: Incompetent Bureaucracy or Effective Vanguard of Public Health?
This paper will discuss how the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) is portrayed in fiction. The seven novels discussed here have been selected because FDA decisions and policies are crucial to each of their plots. This paper is not intended to offer an exhaustive look at how the FDA is depicted in literature, but rather to show how these narratives, through their characters and their personal tribulations, illuminate certain strengths and weaknesses of current FDA practices in a more vivid and personal way than traditional legal analysis. The paper is divided into four sections. First, this paper will discuss some systemic problems within the FDA regulatory process, as identified by these novels. Second, this paper will discuss the way these novels portray personnel issues faced by the Agency. Third, this paper will discuss the novels’ depiction of the FDA’s successes. Fourth, this paper will comment on the utility of using fiction as a lens through which to study a government agency such as the FDA. A plot summary of each novel is attached as Appendix A. Attached as Appendix B is a list of the best available sales data for each book
The Ethics of International Bureaucracies: Abortion and the Human Reproduction Programme: An interview with Australian Senator Brian Harradine Canberra, Australia, April, 1990
The World Health Organization (WHO) is involved in many laudable activities, supported by thousands of loyal and active workers, both in the field and in educational, scientific, health, and medical establishments.
To many of these dedicated workers, it will be a source of much disappointment and shame, therefore, to learn that WHO has become involved in activities in which its motto healthfor all is being interpreted in such a way as to discriminate against the health and well-being of particular unborn children.
In this interview, Senator Harradine seeks to answer matters of serious concern which have arisen concerning the direction of the Human Reproduction Programme (HRP) of which WHO is co-sponsor and executing agency
