Interactive Multimedia Teaching of Accounting Information System (AIS) Cycles: Student Perceptions and Views.
This paper describes the design and development of a CD ROM intended to assist students' learning by bringing a sense of reality to the concepts studied in relation to Accounting Information Systems cycles. The educational design is underpinned by constructivist theories of learning which espouse the benefits of experiential learning in facilitating effective student learning. Three Australian companies - Warner Bros. Movie World, Golden Circle and Zupps Parts – are featured on the CD ROM to provide virtual 'experiential learning experiences' for students. An extensive evaluation of the CD ROM was conducted, involving both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, to ascertain students' perceived value of the CD ROM in assisting their learning. Results indicate that the CD ROM offered students a real life understanding of applicable concepts and that students were receptive to learning in online environments which are appropriately designed and constructed

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EDU-GAMES SOFTWARE (CD-ROM) AS MEDIA IN THE ENGLISH TEACHING-LEARNING PROCESS TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SD KANISIUS WONOSARI II
The objective of this research is to know whether or not there is a
significant difference in the vocabulary mastery between the students who are
taught by using Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM) and those who are not taught by
using Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM).
This research is quasi-experimental research in which the choice of the
research sample was done randomly. The sample of this research consisted of 35
students (two classes). The two classes were class 5 A as the experimental group
and 5 B as the control group. The data were collected by using a vocabulary test.
The two groups were given pre-test (before the experiment was conducted) and
the post-test (after the experiment). During the research, the students of 5 A or the
experimental group were taught vocabulary by using Edu-Games Software (CDROM)
as media in the English teaching and learning process, while the control
group were not taught by using Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM). From the tryout,
it was found out that 37 items of the vocabulary mastery test were valid with
the reliability of 0.897. The data were collected by means of a descriptive and an
inferential statistics technique. The test of normality and homogeneity were
conducted before the test of hypothesis was applied.
The data show that the vocabulary mastery of students who were taught
using Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM) is in the very high category. The mean of
the gain scores of the experimental group is 5.67, while the mean of the control
group is only 1.29. Moreover, it was found that there is a significant difference in
the scores of students’ vocabulary mastery (to =3.654; p=0.000) between those
who were taught using Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM) and those who were not.
It can be concluded that the use of Edu-Games Software (CD-ROM) is good to
teach vocabulary for it can increase the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade
students of SD Kanisius Wonosari II
Post impact evaluation of an E-learning cross-infection control CD-ROM provided to all general dental practitioners in England
Aim To carry out a post-impact evaluation of a cross-infection control CD-ROM, developed for NHS dental teams as a continuing professional development e-learning tool. The program was commissioned by the Department of Health and developed by a project team through the UK Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans. The Dental Practice Boardhad originally sent one copy of the CD-ROM to each dental practice in England in 2004. Method A quantitative statistical analysis of the results of 326 online respondents to the learning package and a survey of 118 dental practitioners drawn from the Dental Practice Board database. Results Practitioners felt the CD-ROM in this instance was well designed and appropriate for their needs. It is inclusive and accessible to a wide range of dental professionals including nurses and hygienists. Conclusions This form of continuing professional development is popular with dental practitioners, although it should not be the only form of continuing professional development available. However, whilst the project was generally regarded as successful, there were problems with the distribution of the CD-ROM. This suggests that anonline resource should be made available in the future
Computer aided systems human engineering: A hypermedia tool
The Computer Aided Systems Human Engineering (CASHE) system, Version 1.0, is a multimedia ergonomics database on CD-ROM for the Apple Macintosh II computer, being developed for use by human system designers, educators, and researchers. It will initially be available on CD-ROM and will allow users to access ergonomics data and models stored electronically as text, graphics, and audio. The CASHE CD-ROM, Version 1.0 will contain the Boff and Lincoln (1988) Engineering Data Compendium, MIL-STD-1472D and a unique, interactive simulation capability, the Perception and Performance Prototyper. Its features also include a specialized data retrieval, scaling, and analysis capability and the state of the art in information retrieval, browsing, and navigation
Learners' attitude towards learning through CD-ROM courseware : a case study of an organization.
The paper seeks to explore two factors associated with learners’ attitude toward learning through CD-ROM courseware: (1) learners’ characteristic; and (2) characteristics of CD-ROM courseware. Data were administered
using an instrument custom designed for the study. The respondents were 150 employees of the selected organisation
who had used any CD-ROM courseware in any of the organisation’s learning centres during a specified one-month
period. Results show that: (1) the majority of respondents surveyed found to have favourable attitude toward the last
CD-ROM courseware they had used; (2) learners’ attitude towards computers was found to be highly correlated with
learners’ attitude towards CD-ROM courseware; and (3) courseware characteristics of textology and immediate
feedback were identified as two of the most highly correlated factors. In learning through CD-ROM courseware,
learners’ characteristics such as learners’ attitude towards computers, their working experience and educational
achievement need to be taken into consideration. In CD-ROM courseware development, characteristics such as textology and immediate feedback are important elements that facilitate positive attitude towards learning. This study is useful to CD-ROM courseware developers and training managers in developing a more appropriate training for learners
Minutes of the CD-ROM Workshop
The workshop described in this document had two goals: (1) to establish guidelines for the CD-ROM as a tool to distribute datasets; and (2) to evaluate current scientific CD-ROM projects as an archive. Workshop attendees were urged to coordinate with European groups to develop CD-ROM, which is already available at low cost in the U.S., as a distribution medium for astronomical datasets. It was noted that NASA has made the CD Publisher at the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) available to the scientific community when the Publisher is not needed for NASA work. NSSDC's goal is to provide the Publisher's user with the hardware and software tools needed to design a user's dataset for distribution. This includes producing a master CD and copies. The prerequisite premastering process is described, as well as guidelines for CD-ROM construction. The production of discs was evaluated. CD-ROM projects, guidelines, and problems of the technology were discussed
