    Impacts of Activities in Crushing Plant on Environment and Occupational Health of Workers Involved

    Abstract With the development of societies there is a growing demand for raw materials for the construction industry, among which the crushed materials existing in the various categories, as set down the specifications of the services of competent bodies. In the long term and as a result of overuse such demands lead to exhaustion of mines and environmental degradation. These materials are produced in crushing plants, which have characteristics of development of its activities, being an aggressive environment for the people involved and, likewise, to the surrounding environment, deteriorating air, water and soil. As for the workers, since the production process, may present in the medium and long term, the emergence of so-called occupational diseases or occupational diseases, these diseases that can lead people to the inability to work and even death. It should be noted that occupational diseases relating to mineral extraction are properly characterized in the literature. In Brazil there's labor and welfare legislation they impose on public and private sectors, the zeal with health workers, and the non-compliance, characterizes the disrespect for life and health of employees, liable to punishment. Likewise, today, there is a growing concern in the world, both in public and private sectors, about the legacy of extractive activities, the need to reassess the system of production and exploitation of mineral resources used to make it sustainable and ensure the existence of future generations, compared to its current unsustainable, and especially with regard to the costs involved. The aim of this study is the importance of the process of comminution in the environment and humans. It will use a literature review, theoretical and descriptive method, as well as statistics from the Ministry of Social Security in Brazil. The reduction of environmental degradation and occupational diseases of workers require more appropriate production techniques as well as major prevention strategies. To do so, you should seek the development of new demands in the area of construction compatible with the reduced use of mineral inputs and labor.     Synthesis of titanate nanofibers co-sensitized with ZnS and Bi2S3 nanocrystallites and their application on pollutants removal

    The synthesis of nanocomposite materials combining titanate nanofibers (TNF) with nanocrystalline ZnS and Bi2S3 semiconductors is described in this work. The TNF were produced via hydrothermal synthesis and sensitized with the semiconductor nanoparticles, through a single-source precursor decomposition method. ZnS and Bi2S3 nanoparticles were successfully grown onto the TNF's surface and Bi2S3-ZnS/TNF nanocomposite materials with different layouts were obtained using either a layer-by-layer or a co-sensitization approach. The samples' photocatalytic performance was first evaluated through the production of the hydroxyl radical using terephthalic acid as probe molecule. All the tested samples show photocatalytic ability for the production of this oxidizing species. Afterwards, the samples were investigated for the removal of methylene blue. The nanocomposite materials with best adsorption ability for the organic dye were the ZnS/TNF and Bi2S3ZnS/TNF. The removal of the methylene blue was systematically studied, and the most promising results were obtained considering a sequential combination of an adsorption-photocatalytic degradation process using the Bi2S3ZnS/TNF powder as a highly adsorbent and photocatalyst material.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figure

    Churchmanship and personality among clergymen in the church in Wales : are Anglo-Catholic priests more feminine?

    The aim of the present study is to develop and test a new measure of Anglo-Catholic orientation capable of assessing the extent of the continuing influence of the Anglican-Catholic movement among Anglican clergy and useful for testing theories regarding the association between Anglo-Catholic orientation and personality. Data provided by a sample of 232 clergymen serving in the Church in Wales support the internal consistency reliability of the 21-item Francis-Littler Anglo-Catholic Orientation Scale, and, in terms of the Eysenckian dimensional model of personality, demonstrate that Anglo-Catholic orientation is associated with higher levels of psychological femininity as assessed by the neuroticism scale, but not as assessed by the psychoticism scale

    Motivation crowding in real consumption decisions: Who is messing with my groceries?

    We present evidence of crowding out of intrinsic motivation in real purchasing decisions from a field experiment in a large supermarket chain. We compare three instruments, a label, a subsidy and a neutral price change, in their ability to induce consumers to switch from dirty to clean products. Interestingly a subsidy framed as an intervention is less effective than either a label or a neutrally framed price change. We argue that this provides a new explanation for crowding behaviour: consumers are resistant to having the line of demarcation between public and private decision making moved - in either direction

    Beyond gender stereotypes in language comprehension: self sex-role descriptions affect the brain’s potentials associated with agreement processing

    We recorded Event-Related Potentials to investigate differences in the use of gender information during the processing of reflexive pronouns. Pronouns either matched the gender provided by role nouns (such as “king” or “engineer”) or did not. We compared two types of gender information, definitional information, which is semantic in nature (a mother is female), or stereotypical (a nurse is likely to be female). When they followed definitional role-nouns, gender-mismatching pronouns elicited a P600 effect reflecting a failure in the agreement process. When instead the gender violation occurred after stereotypical role-nouns the Event Related Potential response was biphasic, being positive in parietal electrodes and negative in anterior left electrodes. The use of a correlational approach showed that those participants with more “feminine” or “expressive” self sex-role descriptions showed a P600 response for stereotype violations, suggesting that they experienced the mismatch as an agreement violation; whereas less “expressive” participants showed an Nref effect, indicating more effort spent in linking the pronouns with the possible, although less likely, counter-stereotypical referent

    A novel method to assess human population exposure induced by a wireless cellular network

    <p>This paper presents a new metric to evaluate electromagnetic exposure induced by wireless cellular networks. This metric takes into account the exposure induced by base station antennas as well as exposure induced by wireless devices to evaluate average global exposure of the population in a specific geographical area. The paper first explains the concept and gives the formulation of the Exposure Index (EI). Then, the EI computation is illustrated through simple phone call scenarios (indoor office, in train) and a complete macro urban data long-term evolution scenario showing how, based on simulations, radio-planning predictions, realistic population statistics, user traffic data, and specific absorption rate calculations can be combined to assess the index.</p
