Behavior of Active Rules within Multi-Database Systems

    No full text
This paper focuses on dimensions characterizing the execution of global ECA rules within multi-database systems (MDBS). The MDBS speci cities that a ect rule execution are identi ed and integrated in the dimensions currently used to characterize the active rule behavior. Asaresult, we propose a rule execution taxonomy for global rules. It is composed of dimensions structured inthree levels that concern one rule execution, the execution of modules (sets) of rules and the coordination of distributed rule execution. The dimensions should be seen as a framework for designing and developing execution engines managing global rules in MDBS. Such an approach is the result of both unbundling active database management systems and using rules in a distributed environment.
