Reading the Lack of the Body: The Writing of the Marquis de Sade

At the opening of her article, Acker writes, "I am using this essay to do two things. To read a short passage from Philosophy in the Bedroom by the Marquis de Sade. To read one of his tales. The more that I write my own novels, the more it seems to me that to write is to read." The two main divisions in the text bear the following headings: "To write in order to lead the reader into a labyrinth from which the reader cannot emerge without destroying the world" and "Reading a tale by de Sade: writing or reading whose only purpose is to destroy itself.

Tests to determine the quality of finish of nitrocellulose and acid catalysed lacquer with and without sanding between coatings were conducted on four fast growing species , namely : batai , yamane , acacia , and rubberwood. The quality of finishes was evaluated in terms of machining ability , surface performace , surface gloss , adhesion ability , hardness , and flexibility of wood finish . The testing methods were based on The British Standard No . 3962 part 6 , 1980 and Draft of Malaysian Standard part 1 ,1987 . The results indicated that on rubberwood , acacia, batai and yamane nitrocellulose lacquer had higher gloss and was more flexible than acid catalysed lacquer with and without sanding in between coatings. On the other hand , acid catalysed lacquer had greater hardness and higher adhesion ability than nitrocellulose lacquer with and without sanding in between coatings for all species. In general the quality of nitrocellulose lacquer and acid catalysed lacquer on rubberwood was the highest , followed by acacia, yamane , and batai . Moreover , these species have a good machining ability and have a good surface performance , and the results showed rubberwood , acacia and yamane to be suitable for furniture

Studi Perladangan Berpindah dari Suku Wemale di Kecamatan Inamosol Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat

Shifting cultivation is a farming system in which farmers cultivate through a movement of activity from a place to another in the secondary or primary forest. Wemale tribe in the Inamosol District of West Seram Regency are able to open forest area about 0.2 – 1.0 hectare in each year for practing the shifting cultivation. To understand how Wemale tribe practiced the shifting cultivation, a research has been conducted with the main objevtive to know the factors that determined the variation of the land size of the shifting cultivation. The method used in the research was by interview and direct observation in the field. The results of the research indicated that variation of land size of the shifting culvation that was practiced by the Wemale tribe were the number of household labors and the number of children in the household that were still active in the process of educatio

Density of States and NMR Relaxation Rate in Anisotropic Superconductivity with Intersecting Line Nodes

We show that the density of states in an anisotropic superconductor with intersecting line nodes in the gap function is proportional to Elog(αΔ0/E)E log (\alpha \Delta_0 /E) for E<<Δ0|E| << \Delta_0, where Δ0\Delta_0 is the maximum value of the gap function and α\alpha is constant, while it is proportional to EE if the line nodes do not intersect. As a result, a logarithmic correction appears in the temperature dependence of the NMR relaxation rate and the specific heat, which can be observed experimentally. By comparing with those for the heavy fermion superconductors, we can obtain information about the symmetry of the gap function.Comment: 7 pages, 4 PostScript Figures, LaTeX, to appear in J. Phys. Nationwide inventory of mosquito biodiversity (Diptera: Culicidae) in Belgium, Europe

To advance our restricted knowledge on mosquito biodiversity and distribution in Belgium, a national inventory started in 2007 (MODIRISK) based on a random selection of 936 collection points in three main environmental types: urban, rural and natural areas. Additionally, 64 sites were selected because of the risk of importing a vector or pathogen in these sites. Each site was sampled once between May and October 2007 and once in 2008 using Mosquito Magnet Liberty Plus traps. Diversity in pre-defined habitat types was calculated using three indices. The association between species and environmental types was assessed using a correspondence analysis. Twenty-three mosquito species belonging to traditionally recognized genera were found, including 21 indigenous and two exotic species. Highest species diversity (Simpson 0.765) and species richness (20 species) was observed in natural areas, although urban sites scored also well (Simpson 0.476, 16 species). Four clusters could be distinguished based on the correspondence analysis. The first one is related to human modified landscapes (such as urban, rural and industrial sites). A second is composed of species not associated with a specific habitat type, including the now widely distributed Anopheles plumbeus. A third group includes species commonly found in restored natural or bird migration areas, and a fourth cluster is composed of forest species. Outcomes of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed sampling scheme and support the choice of the trap type. Obtained results of this first country-wide inventory of the Culicidae in Belgium may serve as a basis for risk assessment of emerging mosquito-borne diseases. (Résumé d'auteur
