Codling moth granulovirus: Variations in the susceptibility of local codling moth populations

This study is part of a BMELV (German Federal Ministry for, Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection) project for prevention of codling moth damage by long-term population control in large areas. Specimens from local codling moth populations were collected in fall 2003 from three different orchards in the South of Germany; two of them having been treated with granulovirus of codling moth (CpGV Madex 2 and/or Gran-upom) over many years (Lake Constance II and South Baden) and one since two years (Lake Constance I). In autumn 2004, specimens from populations in four other orchards with serious CM problems were col-lected to investigate whether more populations were involved in that region. Furthermore, the population Lake Constance I and South Baden were tested again. During the season, the location South Baden was almost weekly treated with 100 ml/ha of Madex 2 to test whether the level of susceptibility would change after such heavy treatments. The susceptibility of the offsprings of the overwintering generation to CpGV was investigated in the spring of the following year in bioassays on artificial diet and compared to a laboratory strain of the codling moth. The results indicated significant differences in sensitivity to the virus between the local codling moth populations. The LC50-values showed that in 2004, South Baden and Lake Constance II were more than thousand fold less susceptible than the populations Lake Constance I and the laboratory strain. The results from the bio-assays in 2005 confirmed the low susceptibility of South Baden and of the new locations in Saarland and from an orchard 100 km away from South Baden. The population Lake Constance I, on the other hand, maintained its high sensitivity to the virus. The slope of the dose-mortality-regression lines of the unsuscep-tible populations was significantly lower than those of the susceptible ones, including that of the laboratory strain. This indicates a high inhomogeneity in the individual response of the unsusceptible larvae against the virus. Actually, the problem of reduced sensitivity to the virus seems to be limited to a few orchards in Germany, the majority of orchards being not affected

Autonomous control of a humanoid soccer robot : development of tools and strategies using colour vision : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering in Mechatronics at Massey University

Humanoid robots research has been an ongoing area of development for researchers due to the benefits that humanoid robots present, whether for entertainment or industrial purposes because of their ability to move around in a human environment, mimic human movement and being aesthetically pleasing. The RoboCup is a competition designed to further the development of robotics, with the humanoid league being the forefront of the competition. A design for the robot platform to compete at an international level in the RoboCup competition will be developed. Along with the platform, tools are created to allow the robot to function autonomously, effectively and efficiently in this environment, primarily using colour vision as its main sensory input. By using a 'point and follow' approach to the robot control a simplistic A.I. was formed which enables the robot to complete the basic functionality of a striker of the ball. Mathematical models are then presented for the comparison of stereoscopic versus monoscopic vision, with the expansion on why monoscopic vision was chosen, due to the environment of the competition being known. A monoscopic depth perception mathematical model and algorithm is then developed, along with a ball trajectory algorithm to allow the robot to calculate a moving balls trajectory and react according to its motion path. Finally through analysis of the implementation of the constructed tools for the chosen platform, details on their effectiveness and their drawbacks are discussed

Neue Wege in der Energiepolitik unter Berücksichtigung der Situation in Baden-Württemberg

Die Situation der Energieversorgung in Baden-Württemberg kann nicht losgelöst von nationalen und internationalen Entwicklungstendenzen der Energiemärkte betrachtet werden; denn erstens ist Baden-Württemberg in hohem Maße exportorientiert und in den nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerb eingebunden, und zweitens verfügt Baden-Württemberg über keine nennenswerten Vorkommen an fossilen und nuklearen Energieträgern. Folglich werden derzeit über 95 Prozent der in Baden-Württemberg verbrauchten Primärenergieträger über Einfuhren gedeckt. Aufgrund des hohen Anteils importierter Primärenergie ist die Energiepreisentwicklung auf dem Weltmarkt für die Energiepolitik Baden-Württembergs von entscheidender Bedeutung. Die künftige Entwicklung der Energiepreise läßt sich jedoch nicht mit Sicherheit voraussagen. So weisen z.B. Ölpreisprognosen eine starke Streubreite auf, die ein Ausdruck der beträchtlichen Unsicherheit über die Determinanten der Preisbildung aUf den Weltenergiemärkten sind

Unterschiede im Transmissionsweg geldpolitischer Impulse : eine Analyse für wichtige Exportländer Baden-Württembergs in der Europäischen Währungsunion

Die Analyse hat zum Ziel, Unterschiede im Übertragungsweg geldpolitischer Impulse zwischen Mitgliedsländern der Europäischen Währungsunion aufzuzeigen und zu analysieren, ob sich daraus Erkenntnisse für unterschiedliche Geschwindigkeit und Stärke der Übertragung geldpolitischer Impulse ableiten lassen. Dabei wird eine spezielle Perspektive zugrundegelegt: Es werden schwerpunktmäßig solche Länder analysiert, die für die Exportwirtschaft des Bundeslandes Baden-Württemberg von besonderer Bedeutung sind. Hintergrund dieser Fragestellung ist die besondere Struktur der baden-württembergischen Ausfuhren: Stärker als in den anderen Bundesländern sind die Ausfuhren Baden-Württembergs auf langlebige Konumgüter (Kraftfahrzeuge), Investitionsgüter (Maschinenbauerzeugnisse, elektrotechnische Erzeugnisse) und Vorleistungen (chemische Erzeugnisse) konzentriert. Darüber hinaus kommt den Exporten in Baden-Württemberg insgesamt eine stärkere Bedeutung als im Durchschnitt der übrigen Bundesländer zu. Für die Nachfrage nach diesen Gütergruppen kann angenommen werden, dass sie in stärkerem Maße als z. B. die Nachfrage nach kürzerlebigen Konsumgütern vom Zinsniveau abhängt. Zinspolitischen Impulsen der europäischen Zentralbank kommt damit besondere Bedeutung für die Exportwirtschaft dieses Bundeslandes zu. Die Untersuchung hat folgenden Aufbau: In einem einführenden Abschnitt wird zunächst die besondere Situation der Exportwirtschaft Baden-Württembergs herausgearbeitet. Diese Analyse konstituiert das Länderspektrum, das im folgenden zweiten Hauptteil hinsichtlich der Charakteristika des geldpolitischen Transmissionsweges untersucht wird. Den dritten Hauptteil der Untersuchung bildet eine empirische Analyse der Zinsabhängigkeit der baden-württembergischen Ausfuhren in den wichtigsten Gü-tergruppen. Im abschließenden Fazit wird ein Resümee bezüglich der Auswirkungen zinspolitischer Impulse auf die Exportwirtschaft Baden-Württembergs gezogen
