    Co-Transformation of Type and Instance Graphs Supporting Merging of Types and Retyping

    Algebraic graph transformation is a well-known rule-based approach to manipulate graphs that can be applied in several contexts. In this paper we use it in the context of model-driven engineering. Graph transformation rules usually specify changes to only one graph per application, however there are use cases such as model co-evolution where not only a single graph should be manipulated but also related ones. The co-transformation of type graphs together with their instance graphs has shown to be a promising approach to formalize model and meta-model co-evolution. In this paper, we extend our earlier work on co-evolution by allowing transformation rules that have less restrictions so that graph manipulations such as merging of types and retyping of graph elements are allowed

    Fujaba is an Open Source UML CASE tool project started at the software engineering group of Paderborn University in 1997. In 2002 Fujaba has been redesigned and became the Fujaba Tool Suite with a plug-in architecture allowing developers to add functionality easily while retaining full control over their contributions. Multiple Application Domains Fujaba followed the model-driven development philosophy right from its beginning in 1997. At the early days, Fujaba had a special focus on code generation from UML diagrams resulting in a visual programming language with a special emphasis on object structure manipulating rules. Today, at least six rather independent tool versions are under development in Paderborn, Kassel, and Darmstadt for supporting (1) reengineering, (2) embedded real-time systems, (3) education, (4) specification of distributed control systems, (5) integration with the ECLIPSE platform, and (6) MOF-based integration of system (re-) engineering tools. International Community According to our knowledge, quite a number of research groups have also chosen Fujaba as a platform for UML and MDA related research activities. In addition, quite a number of Fujaba users send requests for more functionality and extensions. Therefore, the 7th International Fujaba Days aimed at bringing together Fujaba developers and Fujaba users from all over the world to present their ideas and projects and to discuss them with each other and with the Fujaba core development team

    The design and implementation of complex software systems inherently spans multiple levels of abstractions. The concepts of each level of abstractions and their interplay are represented by formal languages that are either implicitly known or explicitly defined. Achieving high productivity in software development and maintenance is thus strongly connected with ruling the complexity of multi-level language design and evolution. This paper explains the necessity for automating multi-level language evolution, discusses its challenges and proposes concepts as well as a prototypical tool that support the incremental co-evolution of a staged language and program generation architecture. This approach reduces the cost of language maintenance and paves the ground for an incremental and bottom-up oriented way of developing domain specific languages. 1 Increasing Productivity Through DSLs
