Scoop attachment makes helicopter recoveries easier and safer
Helicopter with rigid boom and net attachment performs rescue or recovery operations easily and safely. The attachment in the front of the helicopter scoops objects from difficult and otherwise inaccessible areas and pivots to the side hatch of the aircraft so that no crew member need leave the craft
The object of my affection : Attachment security and material culture
Archaeological research into how objects affect us emotionally is still in its infancy, with our affiliative responses to objects - those related to socially close and harmonious relationships - being particularly understudied. Psychological research has however revealed that objects can have powerful effects on emotional wellbeing, acting as attachment figures which provide a sense of comfort and security in the absence of loved ones, and promoting the confidence to explore and develop positive relationships. Here we discuss the phenomenon of these attachment objects, drawing on recent survey research, and apply this concept to new interpretations of two particularly meaningful prehistoric artefacts - the Stonehenge pig ‘toy’ and the Hohle Fels ‘Venus’. We conclude that a better understanding of attachment objects will provide considerable insight into the emotional significance of particular cherished artefacts throughout time
Method and apparatus for releasably connecting first and second objects
The apparatus and method are disclosed for releasably connecting first and second objects, where a magnetic end effector may include at least one elongated pin number, a proximal end of which is connected to the first object and the distal end of which may be inserted into a receiving portion in the second object. Latch members are carried by the pin member for radial movement between retracted and expanded positions for releasing and locking, respectively, first and second objects. A plunger member carried by the pin member is axially moveable between first and second positions. In the first plunger position, the latch members are located in the expanded (locked) position and in the second plunger position the latch members are released for movement to retracted or unlocked position. The magnetic end effector is provided for releasable attachment to the first object and for moving the plunger member to the second position, releasing the first object
Non-perturbative Thermodynamics in Matrix String Theory
A study of the thermodynamics in IIA Matrix String Theory is presented. The
free string limit is calculated and seen to exactly reproduce the usual result.
When energies are enough to excite non-perturbative objects like D-particles
and specially membranes, the situation changes because they add a large number
of degrees of freedom that do not appear at low energies. There seems to be a
negative specific heat (even in the Microcanonical Ensemble) that moves the
asymptotic temperature to zero. Besides, the mechanism of interaction and
attachment of open strings to D-particles and D-membranes is analyzed.Comment: 30 pages, 3 figures. Several points are clarified. Final version to

Scaling and width distributions of parity conserving interfaces
We present an alternative finite-size approach to a set of parity conserving
interfaces involving attachment, dissociation, and detachment of extended
objects in 1+1 dimensions. With the aid of a nonlocal construct introduced by
Barma and Dhar in related systems [Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 2135 (1994)], we
circumvent the subdiffusive dynamics and examine close-to-equilibrium aspects
of these interfaces by assembling states of much smaller, numerically
accessible scales. As a result, roughening exponents, height correlations, and
width distributions exhibiting universal scaling functions are evaluated for
interfaces virtually grown out of dimers and trimers on large-scale substrates.
Dynamic exponents are also studied by finite-size scaling of the spectrum gaps
of evolution operators.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, published versio
Communication systems supporting multimedia multi-user applications
Multimedia multi-user applications are becoming more and more important. Intensive research is underway on the design of protocols and protocol entities for future communication systems supporting multimedia multi-user applications. The development of a service description ensures that protocol designs actually produce the required functional behavior. The authors explain the approach to the description of a multimedia multi-user service. An example illustrates the use of the service description in the design of communication systems. Next, they present the basic requirements of multimedia and multi-user communications. A call model underlies and structures the service description. Finally, the authors describe the service in terms of service element

Investigating familiar interfaces to help older adults learn computer applications more easily
Many older adults wish to gain competence in using a computer, but many application interfaces are perceived as complex and difficult to use, deterring potential users from investing the time to learn them. Hence, this study looks at the potential of ‘familiar’ interface design which builds upon users’ knowledge of real world interactions, and applies existing skills to a new domain. Tools are provided in the form of familiar visual objects, and manipulated like real-world counterparts, rather than with buttons, icons and menus found in classic WIMP interfaces.
This paper describes the formative evaluation of computer interactions that are based upon familiar real world tasks, which supports multitouch interaction, involves few buttons and icons, no menus, no right-clicks or double-clicks and no dialogs. Using an example of an email client to test the principles of using “familiarity”, the initial feedback was very encouraging, with 3 of the 4 participants being able to undertake some of the basic email tasks with no prior training and little or no help. The feedback has informed a number of refinements of the design principles, such as providing clearer affordance for visual objects. A full study is currently underway
POLA ATTACHMENT IBU DAN ANAK PADA MASYARAKAT SUMBAWA
Pastoral care from parents to children will create an attachment between children and parents. Attachment is the emotional bond that occurs specifically on a reciprocal basis between children with mothers who can provide a sense of security to the child so the child will obtain the fulfillment of closeness, warmth and security of the mother. In each area must have characteristics that differ in terms of nurturing and bonding behavior patterns among children with parents. In Sumbawa community family also has a uniqueness in terms of child care. Holding of this study aims to determine the form of attachment (attachment) between mother and child in the community of Sumbawa. The study was a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were children aged 1 to 3\ud
years are cared for solely by parents. She took the child to the age of 1 to 3 years is at this age occurred separately anxiety (separation anxiety) between children with parents as objects lekatnya. Data collection methods used were participant observation, while the interviews were conducted in the mother or the parents and close relatives of subjects. Results obtained from this study can be concluded that children from small already taken care of by their parents will establish a close relationship which is called viscosity. In this research showed that all subjects tend to be more attached to his mother from the other family members. Attachment between children and mothers due to frequent the frequency of meetings between the child with his mother and the amount of time spent with his mother as a child at home. A child becomes inclined more closely to the mother figure for the mother who is first seen at the time of waking until falling asleep again. My mother also always accompany any child's activity. While the father is rarely seen too rarely accompanied her father's activities because of busy work. The closeness between the child with his mother cause psychological attachment between the child with his mother that caused the child to feel calm and comfortable while flying near his mother. This is referred to as the sticky attachment patterns, intimate and safe or also called secure attachment
