Exploiting Interference Alignment in Multi-Cell Cooperative OFDMA Resource Allocation
This paper studies interference alignment (IA) based multi-cell cooperative
resource allocation for the downlink OFDMA with universal frequency reuse.
Unlike the traditional scheme that treats subcarriers as separate dimensions
for resource allocation, the IA technique is utilized to enable
frequency-domain precoding over parallel subcarriers. In this paper, the joint
optimization of frequency-domain precoding via IA, subcarrier user selection
and power allocation is investigated for a cooperative three-cell OFDMA system
to maximize the downlink throughput. Numerical results for a simplified
symmetric channel setup reveal that the IA-based scheme achieves notable
throughput gains over the traditional scheme only when the inter-cell
interference link has a comparable strength as the direct link, and the
receiver SNR is sufficiently large. Motivated by this observation, a practical
hybrid scheme is proposed for cellular systems with heterogenous channel
conditions, where the total spectrum is divided into two subbands, over which
the IAbased scheme and the traditional scheme are applied for resource
allocation to users located in the cell-intersection region and cellnon-
intersection region, respectively. It is shown that this hybrid resource
allocation scheme flexibly exploits the downlink IA gains for OFDMA-based

Interference Alignment Through User Cooperation for Two-cell MIMO Interfering Broadcast Channels
This paper focuses on two-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Gaussian
interfering broadcast channels (MIMO-IFBC) with cooperating users on the
cell-boundary of each BS. It corresponds to a downlink scenario for cellular
networks with two base stations (BSs), and users equipped with Wi-Fi
interfaces enabling to cooperate among users on a peer-to-peer basis. In this
scenario, we propose a novel interference alignment (IA) technique exploiting
user cooperation. Our proposed algorithm obtains the achievable degrees of
freedom (DoF) of 2K when each BS and user have transmit antennas and
receive antennas, respectively. Furthermore, the algorithm requires only
a small amount of channel feedback information with the aid of the user
cooperation channels. The simulations demonstrate that not only are the
analytical results valid, but the achievable DoF of our proposed algorithm also

Interference Alignment (IA) and Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) with IEEE802.11ac feedback compression: testbed results
We have implemented interference alignment (IA) and joint transmission
coordinated multipoint (CoMP) on a wireless testbed using the feedback
compression scheme of the new 802.11ac standard. The performance as a function
of the frequency domain granularity is assessed. Realistic throughput gains are
obtained by probing each spatial modulation stream with ten different coding
and modulation schemes. The gain of IA and CoMP over TDMA MIMO is found to be
26% and 71%, respectively under stationary conditions. In our dense indoor
office deployment, the frequency domain granularity of the feedback can be
reduced down to every 8th subcarrier (2.5MHz), without sacrificing performance.Comment: To appear in ICASSP 201
Generalized Degrees of Freedom of the Interference Channel with a Signal Cognitive Relay
We study the interference channel with a signal cognitive relay. A signal
cognitive relay knows the transmit signals (but not the messages) of the
sources non-causally, and tries to help them communicating with their
respective destinations. We derive upper bounds and provide achievable schemes
for this channel. These upper and lower bounds are shown to be tight from
generalized degrees of freedom point of view. As a result, a characterization
of the generalized degrees of freedom of the interference channel with a signal
