Data Workflow - A Workflow Model for Continuous Data Processing
Online data or streaming data are getting more and more important for enterprise information systems, e.g. by integrating sensor data and workflows. The continuous flow of data provided e.g. by sensors requires new workflow models addressing the data perspective of these applications, since continuous data is potentially infinite while business process instances are always finite.\ud
In this paper a formal workflow model is proposed with data driven coordination and explicating properties of the continuous data processing. These properties can be used to optimize data workflows, i.e., reducing the computational power for processing the workflows in an engine by reusing intermediate processing results in several workflows
Structure Selection from Streaming Relational Data
Statistical relational learning techniques have been successfully applied in
a wide range of relational domains. In most of these applications, the human
designers capitalized on their background knowledge by following a
trial-and-error trajectory, where relational features are manually defined by a
human engineer, parameters are learned for those features on the training data,
the resulting model is validated, and the cycle repeats as the engineer adjusts
the set of features. This paper seeks to streamline application development in
large relational domains by introducing a light-weight approach that
efficiently evaluates relational features on pieces of the relational graph
that are streamed to it one at a time. We evaluate our approach on two social
media tasks and demonstrate that it leads to more accurate models that are
learned faster
Criterion-referenced measurement: Its main applications, problems and findings
The need for criterion-referenced measurements has mainly arisen from the introduction of instructional programs organized according to modern principles from educational technology. Some of these programs are discussed, and it is indicated for what purposes criterion-referenced measurements are used. Three main problems of criterion-referenced measurement are distinguished: The problem of criterion-referenced scoring and score interpretation, the problem of criterion-referenced item and test analysis, and the problem of mastery testing. For each of these problems a variety of solutions of the paper to provide an overview of these and to introduce the reader to the original literature
A Rule-Based Approach to Analyzing Database Schema Objects with Datalog
Database schema elements such as tables, views, triggers and functions are
typically defined with many interrelationships. In order to support database
users in understanding a given schema, a rule-based approach for analyzing the
respective dependencies is proposed using Datalog expressions. We show that
many interesting properties of schema elements can be systematically determined
this way. The expressiveness of the proposed analysis is exemplarily shown with
the problem of computing induced functional dependencies for derived relations.
The propagation of functional dependencies plays an important role in data
integration and query optimization but represents an undecidable problem in
general. And yet, our rule-based analysis covers all relational operators as
well as linear recursive expressions in a systematic way showing the depth of
analysis possible by our proposal. The analysis of functional dependencies is
well-integrated in a uniform approach to analyzing dependencies between schema
