As the ethyl acetate extract of Scurrulla atropurpurea (Blume), Brucea javanica (L.) Merr, Lygodium microphyllum and Sonneratia caseolaris L. stem, showed antioxidant activity at 273,52 ppm, 91,12 ppm, 17,39 ppm and 7,03 ppm. N-butanol extract of Lagerstroema spesiosa Pers, Cerbera mangans L, Bidens chinensis Willd, and Sonneratia caseolaris L. peel showed 8,37 ppm, 128,59 ppm, 18,17 ppm and 54,29 ppm antioxidant activity using DPPH model systems. Owing to the property, the studies can be further extended to exploit them for their possible application for preservation of food products as well as their use as health supplements

The present study was to aimed to evaluated and compare in vitro antioxidant activities of 2 Indonesian herbal ingredients (A and B), determined total phenol content., cytotoxic and apoptosis induction activities on HL-60 cells. These data were providing some useful information for people healthy dietary and the new potential application of natural antioxidant containing food materials in functional foods and also as new cancer therapeutics promising candidates. The parameters were total antioxidant activity, amount of total cytotoxic effect on the growth of human promyelocytic leukemia cells (HL-60). Statistical comparison was perform with Student's t-test at p<0.05. The correlation coefficient (r2) between the parameters tested was established by regression analysis. The scavenging effect of extracts herbal on DPPH radicals increased from 0.3-1.5 mg/ml, where is sample A 14.33% to 64.29% and sample B 9.09% to 57.53% was obtained. High content of total phenol compounds were in sample A (21.72 mg GAE/g), lower amounts were in sample B (17.53 mg GAE/g). Apoptosis of HL-60 cells from the morphological changes side (chromatin condensation). Chromatin condensation, a specific and distinct feature of apoptotic cells, was found in the majority of treated cells. The results indicated that the cell death receptor pathway was involved in the apoptosis induced by Indonesian herbal extracts

Antioxidants can prevent free radical formation. Natural antioxidants found in many plants, such as Ficus benjamina and Annona reticulata. The study aimed to compare the antioxidant activity of extracts and fractions of Ficus benjamina and Annona reticulata leaves against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrilhydrazyl. The steps of this study consist of extraction, fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water, phytochemical screening, antioxidant activity determination, and comparing the IC50 values. Percentage scavenging activity of the extracts and fractions against DPPH was calculated to determine the antioxidant activity. The IC50 value of Ficus benjamina was 127.86 ppm for ethanolic extract, 94.01 ppm for water fraction, 115.48 ppm for ethyl acetate fraction, and 335.50 ppm for n-hexane fraction. The IC50 value of Annona reticulata was 274.31 ppm for ethanolic extract, 211.42 ppm for water fraction, 367.91 ppm for ethyl acetate fraction, and 741.08 ppm for n-hexane fraction. The results showed that the Ficus benjamina water fraction was the best antioxidant compared to other extract and fraction

The research was conducted to determine the anticarcinogenic properties of sisik naga(Drymoglossum piloselloides Presl.), by the microculture tetrazolium salt (MTT) assay on the human breast carcinoma dependenthormone (MCF-7) cell lines. The preliminary results showed that the sisik naga extract displayed the cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 with IC50 value of 83.63g/ml. The antioxidative activity of the extracts which could contribute to their cytotoxic properties was also studied. The sisik naga extract was found to have high antioxidant activity with IC50-value of 4.229 ppm. The strong cytotoxic properties of the sisik naga extract could be due to its high antioxidant activity

Turmeric and black pepper spices decrease lipid peroxidation in meat patties during cooking.

Spices are rich in natural antioxidants and have been shown to be potent inhibitors of lipid peroxidation during cooking of meat. Turmeric contains unique conjugated curcuminoids with strong antioxidant activity. Piperine, one of the main constituents of black pepper, is known to increase the bioavailability of curcuminoids in mouse and human studies when consumed with turmeric. We investigated whether adding black pepper to turmeric powder may further inhibit lipid peroxidation when added to meat patties prior to cooking. The addition of black pepper to turmeric significantly decreased the lipid peroxidation in hamburger meat. When investigating the antioxidant activity of the main chemical markers, we determined that piperine did not exhibit any antioxidant activity. Therefore, we conclude that other black pepper ingredients are responsible for the increased antioxidant activity of combining black pepper with turmeric powder

Antioxidant Activity Analysis Of Cynara Scolimus L., Artemisia China L., Borreria Repensdc.,polygala Paniculata L. From Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi Using Dpph (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) Radical Scavenging Analysis

Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi (TNGM) has various biodiversities which need to be explored. This study aims to analyze antioxidant activity four plants from Asteraceae, Rubiaceae and Polygalaceae which were collected from TNGM. Antioxidant activity is analyzed by DPPH radical capturing method using spectrophotometer. Sampel is extracted gradually by wasbenzen and methanol. DPPH radical capturing analysis shows that IC50 score of Cynara scolimus L. wasbenzen extract is 496,16g/mL; Artemisia China L. 407,86g/mL; Borreria repens DC. 984,04 g/mL and Polygala paniculata L. 633,34 g/mL. The IC50 score of methanol extract Cynara scolimus L. is 334,94g/mL; Artemisia China L. 199,99g/mL; Borreria repens DC. 402,28 g/mL and Polygala paniculata L. 77,00 g/mL . Thin layer chromatography analysis shows that methanol extract of Polygala paniculata L. contains flavonoid

Exploration of bioactive compound were continuously done as more new diseases appearing, from infection, cancer, and other degenerative diseases. The invention of new antibiotic compound and antioxidant compound is very needed to solve this problem. Endophytic microbes are microbes which lives in plant's culture and produce the active secondary metabolite. In previous research, 2 compounds from endofitic microbes Penicillium sp in kunyit putih had been successfully isolated and identified as di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate and pyranon derivated as 5 (4'-ethoxy-2'-hydroxy-5'-methyl-2',3'-dihydrofuran-3'-il (hydroxy) methyl-4-isopropyl-3-methyl-2-pyran-2-on). The goal of this research is to test antibacterial and antioxidant activitiy from derivate pyranon, which is resulting from endofitic microbes Penicillium sp in kunyit putih (Curcuma zeodaria). The method used to test the antibacterial activity is dic diffusion, using E. Coli, S. Dysenteriae, S. Aureus, and B. Subtilis. with variation of concentrations 250, 500, 1000, dan 2000μg/mL, and to test the antioxidant activity used 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl ( DPPH) method with variation of concentrations 1000, 500, 250, 125, 62.5, 31.25, 15.625, and 7.8125 µg/mL. The research shown that the antibacterial activity is strongest at S. aureus with 11mm-blocked-zone at 250µg/mL concentration. Pyranon derivate also has active antioxidant manner with IC5016.05µg/mL
