    Fuzzy logic controller parameter optimization using metaheuristic Cuckoo search algorithm for a magnetic levitation system

    The main benefits of fuzzy logic control (FLC) allow a qualitative knowledge of the desired system’s behavior to be included as IF-THEN linguistic rules for the control of dynamical systems where either an analytic model is not available or is too complex due, for instance, to the presence of nonlinear terms. The computational structure requires the definition of the FLC parameters namely, membership functions (MF) and a rule base (RB) defining the desired control policy. However, the optimization of the FLC parameters is generally carried out by means of a trial and error procedure or, more recently by using metaheuristic nature-inspired algorithms, for instance, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, cuckoo search, etc. In this regard, the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm as one of the most promising and relatively recent developed nature-inspired algorithms, has been used to optimize FLC parameters in a limited variety of applications to determine the optimum FLC parameters of only the MF but not to the RB, as an extensive search in the literature has shown. In this paper, an optimization procedure based on the CS algorithm is presented to optimize all the parameters of the FLC, including the RB, and it is applied to a nonlinear magnetic levitation system. From the view of system theory and integration theory, it is imperative to re-examine the problem of inventory control, put forward new inventory management strategies adapted to integrated supply chain management, and improve the integration of the whole supply chain, which can enhance the agility and market response speed of enterprises. Based on the in-depth study of the joint inventory management model, this paper analyzed the current situation of the joint inventory management to optimize the inventory.     Development of Hand-cleaning Service-oriented Autonomous Navigation Robot

    [[abstract]]This paper proposes the development of an autonomous navigation robot with hand-cleaning service in indoor environments. To navigate in unknown environments and provide service, the robot is with several intelligent behaviors including wall-following, obstacle avoidance, autonomous navigation, and human detection. A laser-sensor-based approach is used in the wall-following and obstacle avoidance behavior controllers. A preliminary map-matching algorithm is applied in the localization strategy of autonomous navigation in which the robot can acquire the current location and then move toward to the target position. In this study a hand-cleaning mechanism is embedded into the robot and the service will activate while a human is recognized within the designated range. The overall robotic system is carried out using a two-wheeled driving mobile robot with LabVIEW as an integration tool.     A study of hough transform for weld extraction

    The process of joining metals is called welding. At times, selecting a poor quality material or improper usage of welding technologies may cause defects in welded joints. Some of these welded joints have to be tested nondestructively, because their failure can cause lot of damage, for instance in power plants. Radiography is a very common method for non-destructive testing of welds. It is done by certified weld inspectors who have knowledge about weld flaws, looking at the radiograph of the welded joint with naked eye. The judgment of the weld inspector can be biased; subjective, because it is dependent on his/her experience. This manual method can also become very time consuming. Many researches were exploring computer aided examination of radiographic images in early 1990’s. With much advancement in computer vision and image processing technologies, they are being used to find more effective ways of automatic weld inspection. These days, fuzzy based methods are being widely used in this area too. The first step in automatic weld inspection is to locate the welds or find a Region of Interest (ROI) in the radiographic image [7]. In this thesis, a Standard Hough Transform (SHT) based methodology is developed for weld extraction. Firstly, we have done binarization of image to remove the background and non-welds. For binarization, optimal binary threshold is found by a metaheuristic –Simulated annealing. Secondly, we use SHT to generate the Hough Transform matrix of all non-zero points in the binary image. Thirdly, we have explored two different paths to find a meaningful set of lines in the binarized image that are welds. Finally, these lines are verified as weld using a weld-peak detection procedure. Weld-peak detection is also helpful to remove any non-welds that were remaining. We have used 25 digitized radiographic images containing 100 welds to test the method in terms of true detection and false alarm rate

    Influence of the ratio on the mechanical properties of epoxy resin composite with diapers waste as fillers for partition panel application

    Materials play significant role in the domestic economy and defense with the fast growth of science and technology field. New materials are the core of fresh technologies and the three pillars of modern science and technology are materials science, power technology and data science. The prior properties of the partition panel by using recycled diapers waste depend on the origin of waste deposits and its chemical constituents. This study presents the influence of the ratio on the mechanical properties of polymer in diapers waste reinforced with binder matrix for partition panel application. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of different ratio of diapers waste polymer reinforced epoxy-matrix with regards to mechanical properties and morphology analysis. The polymer includes polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) were used as reinforcing material. The tensile and bending resistance for ratio of 0.4 diapers waste polymers indicated the optimum ratio for fabricating the partition panel. Samples with 0.4 ratios of diapers waste polymers have highest stiffness of elasticity reading with 76.06 MPa. A correlation between the micro structural analysis using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the mechanical properties of the material has been discussed

    User centered neuro-fuzzy energy management through semantic-based optimization

    This paper presents a cloud-based building energy management system, underpinned by semantic middleware, that integrates an enhanced sensor network with advanced analytics, accessible through an intuitive Web-based user interface. The proposed solution is described in terms of its three key layers: 1) user interface; 2) intelligence; and 3) interoperability. The system’s intelligence is derived from simulation-based optimized rules, historical sensor data mining, and a fuzzy reasoner. The solution enables interoperability through a semantic knowledge base, which also contributes intelligence through reasoning and inference abilities, and which are enhanced through intelligent rules. Finally, building energy performance monitoring is delivered alongside optimized rule suggestions and a negotiation process in a 3-D Web-based interface using WebGL. The solution has been validated in a real pilot building to illustrate the strength of the approach, where it has shown over 25% energy savings. The relevance of this paper in the field is discussed, and it is argued that the proposed solution is mature enough for testing across further buildings

    Artificial Intelligence Enabled Project Management: A Systematic Literature Review

    In the Industry 5.0 era, companies are leveraging the potential of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence for more efficient and green human-centric production. In a similar approach, project management would benefit from artificial intelligence in order to achieve project goals by improving project performance, and consequently, reaching higher sustainable success. In this context, this paper examines the role of artificial intelligence in emerging project management through a systematic literature review; the applications of AI techniques in the project management performance domains are presented. The results show that the number of influential publications on artificial intelligence-enabled project management has increased significantly over the last decade. The findings indicate that artificial intelligence, predominantly machine learning, can be considerably useful in the management of construction and IT projects; it is notably encouraging for enhancing the planning, measurement, and uncertainty performance domains by providing promising forecasting and decision-making capabilities

    Ant Clustering with Locally Weighting Ant Perception and Diversified Memory

    Ant clustering algorithms are a robust and flexible tool for clustering data that have produced some promising results. This paper introduces two improvements that can be incorporated into any ant clustering algorithm: kernel function similarity weights and a similarity memory model replacement scheme. A kernel function weights objects within an ant’s neighborhood according to the object distance and provides an alternate interpretation of the similarity of objects in an ant’s neighborhood. Ants can hill-climb the kernel gradients as they look for a suitable place to drop a carried object. The similarity memory model equips ants with a small memory consisting of a sampling of the current clustering space. We test several kernel functions and memory replacement schemes on the Iris, Wisconsin Breast Cancer, and Lincoln Lab network intrusion datasets. Compared to a basic ant clustering algorithm, we show that kernel functions and the similarity memory model increase clustering speed and cluster quality, especially for datasets with an unbalanced class distribution, such as network intrusion

    Enhanced Bees Algorithm with fuzzy logic and Kalman filtering

    The Bees Algorithm is a new population-based optimisation procedure which employs a combination of global exploratory and local exploitatory search. This thesis introduces an enhanced version of the Bees Algorithm which implements a fuzzy logic system for greedy selection of local search sites. The proposed fuzzy greedy selection system reduces the number of parameters needed to run the Bees Algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been applied to a number of benchmark function optimisation problems to demonstrate its robustness and self-organising ability. The Bees Algorithm in both its basic and enhanced forms has been used to optimise the parameters of a fuzzy logic controller. The purpose of the controller is to stabilise and balance an under-actuated two-link acrobatic robot (ACROBOT) in the upright position. Kalman filtering, as a fast convergence gradient-based optimisation method, is introduced as an alternative to random neighbourhood search to guide worker bees speedily towards the optima of local search sites. The proposed method has been used to tune membership functions for a fuzzy logic system. Finally, the fuzzy greedy selection system is enhanced by using multiple independent criteria to select local search sites. The enhanced fuzzy selection system has again been used with Kalman filtering to speed up the Bees Algorithm. The resulting algorithm has been applied to train a Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network for wood defect identification. The results obtained show that the changes made to the Bees Algorithm in this research have significantly improved its performance. This is because these enhancements maintain the robust global search attribute of the Bees Algorithm and improve its local search procedure.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
