    Get PDF
The paper’s purpose is to analyze the effects of technological and organizational features on intranet and portal usage. Technological features comprise common intranet functions such as collaboration, search engine, personalization, workflow and content management. Intranet organizational features were associated with intranet support team’s profile, existence of specific budget for the intranet project and relationship with users. The research model was based on TAM, TTF and on several checklists from intranet literature. A survey was conducted with intranet managers from 98 Brazilian and 70 Portuguese organizations. Factor analysis revealed intranet integration features as a separate construct from technological features. The results showed that many analyzed intranets were at the basic stages. There was evidence that intranet integration and organizational features had more impact on intranet quality and usage than technological features

Employee portals are utilized by many companies to improve information exchange and communication between their employees as well as to better support business processes. Assessing the benefits of employee portals has become important, owing to limited IT budgets and the need to justify investments in portals. In this paper, we propose a conceptual model for measuring the effectiveness of employee portals on the basis of the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model as well as an extensive review of employee portal success measurement literature. The resulting model is presented as the basis for future empirical work in this area. The development of the survey instrument is described and further validation steps are proposed

The intranets have been deployed extensively in large and small-scale organizations. It has grown rapidly by offering features like collaborative communication channels, easing the business processes etc. Typically organizations faced difficulties but they are prevalent while implementation. But the organizations lack clear strategies in designing intranet. It leads to loss on investment, time and productivity, a complete intranet failure. Previous studies mainly focused on management, security and usage etc. This paper presents 9 design strategies for intranet addressing system oriented plan that can be applied in real-time to achieve improvement in organizational performance

Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns

    Get PDF
Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse

The objective of the study was to review the factors that influence the acceptance of the points of sales (POS) technology, as the main systems used in the restaurants environment. It is critical that those POS perceived as proper use for the business growth and development. A conceptual framework is explained by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), were reviewed 28 research articles associated with the acceptance of the points of sales (POS) technology. The literature evidence found indicates the acceptance of POS systems in the F&B industry, including those factors which may affect its implementation and use. Attitude toward POS is affected by individual differences, times, training and company supports. Perceived usefulness of the POS is influenced by information quality, benefits information. The perceived ease of use of the POS is influence by enjoyment. Therefore, that strategy implementation, employee learning, ethical decisions, positive employeemanagement relationship, and personalization level are factors that support technology acceptance

The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of employee portal success and to investigate the industry differences with regard to the success factors. We introduce a theoretical model for this that is based on the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model, which considers the specific requirements of employee portals. We tested the associations between our model’s different success dimensions by using more than 6,000 employees’ responses that were collected in a survey of 22 companies across different industries participating in an international benchmarking study. Furthermore, we analyzed potential industry differences by means of a multi-group comparison. We applied structural equation modeling to carry out the data analysis. The study’s results indicate that, besides the factors contributing to the success of IS in general, other success dimensions – like the quality of the collaboration and process support – have to be considered when aiming for a successful employee portal. The results of the multi-group comparison further indicate that the impacts of the success factors differ in intensity and significance between the industries in our sample. The study’s findings make it possible for practitioners to understand the industry-specific levers with which to improve their employee portals and to prioritize their investments accordingly. By empirically validating a comprehensive success model for employee portals, the study\u27s results advance the theoretical development in this area and present a basis for further research in this field

The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of employee portal success and to identify the levers for its improvement. We introduce a theoretical model for this that is based on the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model, which considers the specific requirements of employee portals. We tested the associations between our model’s different success dimensions by using more than 4,400 employees’ responses. These responses were collected in a survey of twelve companies across different industries participating in an international benchmarking study. We applied structural equation modeling to carry out the causal analysis. Furthermore, within a performance-based analysis, we investigated the success dimensions’ improvement potentials from both a strategic and action-oriented perspective. The results of our causal analysis indicate that besides the factors contributing to the success of IS in general, other success dimensions – like the quality of the collaboration and process support – have to be considered when aiming for a successful employee portal. The performance-based analysis emphasizes the significance of collaboration quality to improve an employee portal and indentifies the respective fields of action. The study’s findings make it possible for practitioners to understand the levers with which to improve their employee portals and to prioritize their investments accordingly. By empirically validating a comprehensive success model for employee portals, the study\u27s results advance the theoretical development in this area and present a basis for further research in this field

The use of intranet has become crucial to support managerial practices increasing organizational creativity. However, it can also generate “creaticidal” effects by reproducing practices hampering creative processes. Based on an in-depth case study at Schneider-Electric (France), this article studies the effects of the intranet usage on creativity within the four departments of the company. The intention of management is to encourage the innovation by stimulating the collaborators’ creativity through the intranet use throughout the departments. Although the intranet is impelled with similar intention, the results reveal that its use has reproduced the already existing managerial practices in departments. The study reveals the importance of reconsidering managerial practices so that the use of intranet that emerges in the human interaction, does not contribute to the “creaticidal” practices in organizational context
