Recruitment of staff into teaching hospitals in Nigeria, acts as the first step towards creating competitive strength and strategic advantage for such institutions. However, one of the major problems associated with these institutions in the South Western part of Nigeria is their mode of staff recruitment. In this research paper, we developed a suitable staff recruitment system for some health institutions in Nigeria, focusing specifically on some teaching hospitals. Three teaching hospitals in south west Nigeria, were visited and relevant information was collated through personal interviews and questionnaires administration to the staff of Human Resource Departments and other relevant health professionals of these teaching hospitals. The design and development of the system employs 3-tier web architecture. System design of the staff recruitment system consisted of design activities that produce system specifications satisfying the functional requirements that were developed in the system analysis process. A formal model of the staff recruitment system was built using Unified Modeling Language (UML). The UML, as a modeling system, which provides a set of conventions that were used to describe the software system in terms of objects, offers diagrams that provide different perspective views of the system parts. The Web-based Medical Recruitment System (WBMRS) was designed to be user friendly and it is easy to navigate

Reflecting on E-Recruiting Research Using Grounded Theory

This paper presents a systematic review of the e-Recruiting literature through a grounded theory lens. The large number of publications and the increasing diversity of publications on e-Recruiting research, as the most studied area within e-HRM (Electronic Human Resource Management), calls for a synthesis of e-Recruiting research. We show interconnections between achievements, research gaps and future research directions in order to advance both e-Recruiting research and practice. Moreover, we provide a definition of e-Recruiting. The use of grounded theory enabled us to reach across sub-disciplines, methods used, perspectives studied, themes discussed and stakeholders involved. We demonstrate that the Grounded Theory Approach led to a better understanding of the interconnections that lay buried in the disparate e-Recruiting literature

The increasing diffusion of the internet and its related internet-based services change more and more the way business is conducted or people organize their life. A particular part of these changes concerns the way corporations design and conduct their business processes. Therefore this paper examines and focuses on the IT-based design of a distinctive business process. Due to its rising importance the exemplary examined process chosen is the recruiting process. With the help of an empirical analysis of the recruiting process in Germany’s Top- 1,000 companies to we investigate the diffusion and impact of e-recruiting tools. A correlation analysis provide evidence that the usage of manual offline components such as paper-based job ads or applications forms is negatively correlated with time, financial and quality improvements of the recruiting process. In contrary, online application forms and job ads on the internet (corporate website and internet job board) are positively correlated with the improved time-to-hire, the quality of candidates and the costs for applicatant management as well as costs per application. The paper concludes that the time of paper-based recruiting is over and e-recruiting will dominate the recruiting practices in the 21st century

A Review of "Developing Technologies in E-Services, Self-Services and Mobile Communication: New Concepts"

Technological developments have rapidly impacted many areas of commercial activity over the last decade. One feature of this is a trend towards technology-enabled self-service, or e-services, with suppliers of goods and services encouraging customers to interact with machines rather than staff in conducting transactions. Developing Technologies in E-Services, Self-Services, and Mobile Communication: New Concepts, edited by Ada Scupola, is a suitable book in this area

    The Future for Architects?

    Get PDF
In this study Building Futures sets out to explore the future role of architects, asking: who will design our buildings in 2025; what roles will those trained in architecture be doing then and how will architectural practice have changed as a result? Through a series of one-to-one interviews and round table sessions the study aims to examine the breadth of those who shape the built environment: including traditional architects and those working in expanded fields of practice, as well as clients, consultants and contractors. The resulting speculations should be an opportunity for discussion and interrogation- an exploration of the imminent changes likely to affect the industry over the next 15 years

Going beyond operational efficiency in HR using IT – A Literature Review of Human Resources Information Systems

    Get PDF
Leading academics claim that the management of human resources will be most critical in gaining competitive advantage.Today, the human resources departments (HR) are transforming themselves from an administrative cost-center to an internalpartner delivering additional business value. In this transformation process, information technology (IT) could play a keyrole. Therefore, this paper aims to unfold both the current state of knowledge concerning the value contribution ofinformation systems (IS) for the HR function and approaches that go even beyond operational efficiency. Reviewing nearly8,000 articles, published in the proceedings of eight major IS conferences reveals that in total 35 articles exclusively dealwith the topic of human resources information systems (HRIS) but only very few research approaches show, how HRIScould help to go beyond operational efficiency. Furthermore, the literature analysis identifies that approaches dealing with theIT support for HR planning processes are completely missing so far

NHBC Foundation: improving recruitment of young people into home building : a literature review

    Get PDF
This literature review was undertaken to support research into young people's attitudes to careers in house building. The review is based on database searches supplemented by the evidence gathered during stakeholder interviews and through requests made to the wider careers and home building sectors. In order to fully answer the main research questions, the literature mapping the barriers faced by young people to working within the sector was explored. Based on the review a set of criteria for analysing and categorising industry sector initiatives will also be developed. The criteria will be presented as a separate compendium of opportunities.National House Builders Council Foundatio
