Performance Analysis of an OFDM PHY Scheme with Zero Forcing Equalizer Using Software Defined Radio Platform and USRP

    Get PDF
We present an implementation of Zero Forcing (ZF) equalizer in OFDM scheme using Software Defined Radio platform whereas NI USRP-2920 as the Radio Frequency (RF) front-end. ZF equalizer is employed to achieve reliable system at the receiver. Center frequency used for data transmission is 915 MHz. The reliability transmission and the performance of ZF equalizer are measured in term of different symbol mapping (i.e., M-PSK and M-QAM). The IQ rate determines the bandwidth available, whereas good performance is achieved with IQ rate less than 1 MHz.ZF equalizer achieves good performance when using BPSK, QPSK and 16-QAM modulation techniques. By applying ZF equalizer, bit error on BPSK and QPSK modulations can be reduced from 29,16% and 39,06% into 0%. This advantage of ZF equalizer also is able to press the bit error on 16- QAM and 64-QAM modulations into 3,125% and 8,85%, respectively. Keywords: OFDM,SDR, USRP,Zero Forcing Equalize

Cognitive test-bed for wireless sensor networks

Cognitive Wireless Sensor Networks are an emerging technology with a vast potential to avoid traditional wireless problems such as reliability, interferences and spectrum scarcity in Wireless Sensor Networks. Cognitive Wireless Sensor Networks test-beds are an important tool for future developments, protocol strategy testing and algorithm optimization in real scenarios. A new cognitive test-bed for Cognitive Wireless Sensor Networks is presented in this paper. This work in progress includes both the design of a cognitive simulator for networks with a high number of nodes and the implementation of a new platform with three wireless interfaces and a cognitive software for extracting real data. Finally, as a future work, a remote programmable system and the planning for the physical deployment of the nodes at the university building is presented

A review on various types of Software Defined Radios (SDRs) in radio communication

    Get PDF
Software Defined Radio (SDR) promises to deliver a cost effective and flexible solution by implementing a wide variety of wireless protocols in software. The SDR became more popular in recent years because of its abilities to realize many applications without a lot of efforts in the integration of different component. This software based radio device allows engineers to add more features to the communication system and implement any number of different signal processing elements or protocols without changing the original system hardware and its architecture. It provides a customizable and portable communications platform for many applications, including the prototyping and realization of wireless protocols and their performances. It is also able to interface with a separate hardware module to communicate over a real channel. In this article we described and compared the various SDRs that currently has been using by the researchers to study the performance of wireless protocol. Among the SDRs that we focused in this article are USRP, SORA, Air blue, SODA, and WARP
