An Efficient Method of Summarizing Documents Using Impression Measurements

    Get PDF
Automatic generic document summarization based on unsupervised schemes is a very useful approach because it does not require training data. Although techniques using latent semantic analysis (LSA) and non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) have been applied to determine topics of documents, there are no researches on reduction of matrix and speeding up of computation of the NMF method. In order to achieve this scheme, this paper utilizes the generic impressive expressions from newspapers to extract important sentences as summary. Therefore, it has no stemming processes and no filtering of stop words. Generally, novels are typical documents providing sentimental impression for readers. However, newspapers deliver different impressions for new knowledge because they inform readers about current events, informative articles and diverse features. The proposed method introduces impressive expressions for newspapers and their measurements are applied to the NMF method. From 100 KB text data of experimental results by the proposed method, it turns out that the matrix size reduces by 80 % and the computation of the NMF method becomes 7 times faster than with the original method, without degrading the relevancy of extracted sentences

The Structured Process Modeling Theory (SPMT): a cognitive view on why and how modelers benefit from structuring the process of process modeling

    Get PDF
After observing various inexperienced modelers constructing a business process model based on the same textual case description, it was noted that great differences existed in the quality of the produced models. The impression arose that certain quality issues originated from cognitive failures during the modeling process. Therefore, we developed an explanatory theory that describes the cognitive mechanisms that affect effectiveness and efficiency of process model construction: the Structured Process Modeling Theory (SPMT). This theory states that modeling accuracy and speed are higher when the modeler adopts an (i) individually fitting (ii) structured (iii) serialized process modeling approach. The SPMT is evaluated against six theory quality criteria

Integrated learning of computer applications for production engineering

A high productivity rate in Engineering is related to an efficient management of the flow of the large quantities of information and associated decision making activities that are consubstantial to the Engineering processes both in design and production contexts. Dealing with such problems from an integrated point of view and mimicking real scenarios is not given much attention in Engineering degrees. In the context of Engineering Education, there are a number of courses designed for developing specific competencies, as required by the academic curricula, but not that many in which integration competencies are the main target. In this paper, a course devoted to that aim is discussed. The course is taught in a Marine Engineering degree but the philosophy could be used in any Engineering field. All the lessons are given in a computer room in which every student can use each all the treated software applications. The first part of the course is dedicated to Project Management: the students acquire skills in defining, using Ms-PROJECT, the work breakdown structure (WBS), and the organization breakdown structure (OBS) in Engineering projects, through a series of examples of increasing complexity, ending up with the case of vessel construction. The second part of the course is dedicated to the use of a database manager, Ms-ACCESS, for managing production related information. A series of increasing complexity examples is treated ending up with the management of the pipe database of a real vessel. This database consists of a few thousand of pipes, for which a production timing frame is defined, which connects this part of the course with the first one. Finally, the third part of the course is devoted to the work with FORAN, an Engineering Production package of widespread use in the shipbuilding industry. With this package, the frames and plates where all the outfitting will be carried out are defined through cooperative work by the studens, working simultaneously in the same 3D model. In the paper, specific details about the learning process are given. Surveys have been posed to the students in order to get feed-back from their experience as well as to assess their satisfaction with the learning process. Results from these surveys are discussed in the pape

Title: Social Environmental Accounting and Accountability - a preparer’s perspective on the relationship between the accountor and the accountee within the food industry in Sweden Seminar date: 2014-06-02 Course: BUSN69 Degree Project - Accounting & Auditing Authors: Ola Nordahl & Alexander Chiem Advisors: Karin Jonnergård & Amanda Tan Sonnerfeldt Five key words: Sustainability reporting, SEA, CSR, Accountability, Food Industry Purpose: To provide insight into the concept of accountability from a preparer’s perspective by examining how the main aspects of SEA contributes to accountability between the accountee and the accountor within the food industry in Sweden. Methodology: A qualitative and exploratory case study of the food industry in Sweden consisting of six semi-structured interviews. Theoretical perspective: Legitimacy and stakeholder theory are commonly used to explain the relationship between organizations and their environment in terms of accountability. We view these theories and the theoretical construct of SEA, from a preparer’s perspective, to shed light on the concept of accountability. Empirical foundation: The data collection consists of information from interviews with four companies within the food sector, one food industry association and one sustainability reporting entrepreneur. Conclusions: Creating accountability is a motive behind SEA and explained by legitimacy and stakeholder aspects. Motives outside the concept of accountability might however also exist. Stakeholder dialogues are essential in order to establish accountability, although the efficiency of the dialogues is questioned. Both the public and specific stakeholders are perceived to be recipients of SEA, which implies that a perceived accountability exists towards both. Understandability of the SEA is important, which might broaden the concept of accountability. A responsive approach to accountability is present whereas preparers see a certain level of subjectivity within SEA as natural

An Android-based Image Steganography Approach to Data Communication Security using LSB and Password-based Encryption

    Get PDF
The study's ultimate goal is to develop an Android app dedicated to Image Steganography, a technique for concealing sensitive information behind seemingly innocuous photographs. This information hiding technique is essential because of its many potential uses. Symmetric encryption, asymmetric encryption, and steganography are all brought together in this method. The initial picture is encrypted using a symmetric technique in this procedure. After that, the encrypted picture is quietly placed using a least significant bits Steganographic approach to conceal the secret key that was encrypted using an asymmetric algorithm. The steganography algorithm's simple but effective security mechanism is a major benefit. Integrating a secret message into a seemingly benign source makes it very difficult to detect the hidden message without prior knowledge of its existence and the appropriate decryption algorithm. The privacy of the concealed data is protected by this feature. The planned Android app would provide a user-friendly interface for using picture steganography methods, making it simple for anybody to choose commonplace photos and secret messages for obfuscation. Both the original picture and the concealed message will be kept secret thanks to the app's robust encryption methods. The hidden message will be seamlessly included into the regular picture using advanced steganographic methods like the least significant bits approach. The creation of this software is motivated by a desire to provide an easily accessible solution for people who want safe communication through hidden messages or encrypted photos. The robust encryption and steganographic technologies, paired with the straightforward interface, will enable users to effectively protect sensitive information. This work will strengthen the area of data security and highlight the need of sophisticated encryption and steganography in modern digital communication

A Text Mining Based Approach for Mining Customer Attribute Data on Undefined Quality Problem

    Get PDF
Understanding how the consumer perceives quality is a key issue in supply chain management. However, as the market structure continues to deepen, traditional evaluation methods using SEVRQUAL are unable identify all issues related to customer quality and unable to supply solutions. The maturation of data mining technology, however, has opened the possibilities of mining customer attribute data on quality problems from unstructured data. Based on the consumer perspective, this research uses an unsupervised machine learning text mining approach and the Recursive Neural Tensor Network to resolve the attribution process for undefined quality problems. It was found that the consumer quality perception system has a typical line-of-sight that can assist consumers quickly capture the logical structure of the quality problem. Although attributions related to quality problems are very scattered, a highly unified view was found to exist within each group, and a strategy to solve the undefined quality problem was agreed through group consensus by 61% of the consumers
