Many-Body Theory of the Electroweak Nuclear Response

After a brief review of the theoretical description of nuclei based on nonrelativistic many-body theory and realistic hamiltonians, these lectures focus on its application to the analysis of the electroweak response. Special emphasis is given to electron-nucleus scattering, whose experimental study has provided a wealth of information on nuclear structure and dynamics, exposing the limitations of the shell model. The extension of the formalism to the case of neutrino-nucleus interactions, whose quantitative understanding is required to reduce the systematic uncertainty of neutrino oscillation experiments, is also discussed.Comment: Lectures delivered at the DAE-BRNS Workshop on Hadron Physics. Comparative Effect of Maitake Pro4x with Chemotherapy Breast Cancer Treatment

Conventional treatments for breast cancer involve surgery followed by radiation and hormonal therapy and/or chemotherapy. Some of these treatments have toxic side effects. Because drugs used in chemotherapy affect both cancer and normal cells to varying degrees, researchers are currently developing targeted drugs that only attack cancer cells without affecting normal cells. One approach to this is to found compounds that are more selective and specific, destroying only tumour cells and prevent metastases without harming normal cells. For thousands of years, medicinal mushrooms have been used because of their healing properties. Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is one of the most promising edible and medicinal mushroom, acting promoting the immune system against the tumorigenesis process. Methods: In the in vitro studies, we measured and compared the effect of Maitake Pro4X or Chemotherapy on LM3 Breast Tumour Cells death. Increased concentrations and different time of treatments were employed. In the in vivo studies, we employed breast tumour bearing female BALBc mice 6-8 weeks old, to assayed the effect of Maitake Pro4X with or without chemotherapy measuring the tumour volume, mortality, relative survival and size of tumour necrosis area after treatment. Results: After 5 weeks of treatment in tumour-bearing BALBc mice, we observed that Maitake Pro4X significantly increased the overall survival of animals and reduced the malignancy of breast tumours. We also found that Maitake Pro4X, as chemotherapy, induce cell-death in a dose and time dependent form. Conclusion: The beneficial effects of Maitake D-Fraction Pro4X, if supported by further evidence could be useful for the treatment of cancer patients to reduce the adverse effects of the conventional chemotherapy treatment.Fil: Aguilera Braico, Diego Máximo. Background and objectives: A survey based study on rural areas of Aligarh District was conducted to assess the prenatal checkups pregnant women and its effects on health status of children between the age of (0-3 years), and immunization received by children and its effects on their health status. Methods: Five hundred children from five villages of rural areas of Aligarh District were randomly selected. For the purpose of the study, a self prepared structured interview schedule was used. To get the qualitative information of the study anthropometric measures include height weight were used for assessing growth pattern of the child. The stepwise analysis of two variables height for age and weight for age was done on the basis of Water low’s and Gomez’ classification. To examine the relationship between Health Status of the child and selected variable that affects Health Status of children, Chi-square test was employed. Results: Based on Gomez’ classification out of 88% mothers who did not go for prenatal ups majority 80% of children were underweight, and 80% of children who did not receive immunization majority 60% were underweight. Based on Waterlow’s classification majority 68% of children were stunted whose mother did not go for prenatal checkups and 50% of their children were stunted who did not receive immunization. Conclusion: Majority of children were stunted whose mother did not go for prenatal checkup and the children who did not receive immunization

Recent status of the understanding of neutrino-nucleus cross section

In this work we have presented current understanding of neutrino-nucleon/nucleus cross sections in the few GeV energy region relevant for a precise determination of neutrino oscillation parameters and CP violation in the leptonic sector. In this energy region various processes like quasielastic and inelastic production of single and multipion production, coherent pion production, kaon, eta, hyperon production, associated particle production as well as deep inelastic scattering processes contribute to the neutrino event rates.Comment: 9-Pages, 4-figures, Talk given at DAE-HEP Symposium held at Delhi University, 12-16 December, 201

Solution of Linear Programming Problems using a Neural Network with Non-Linear Feedback

    Get PDF
This paper presents a recurrent neural circuit for solving linear programming problems. The objective is to minimize a linear cost function subject to linear constraints. The proposed circuit employs non-linear feedback, in the form of unipolar comparators, to introduce transcendental terms in the energy function ensuring fast convergence to the solution. The proof of validity of the energy function is also provided. The hardware complexity of the proposed circuit compares favorably with other proposed circuits for the same task. PSPICE simulation results are presented for a chosen optimization problem and are found to agree with the algebraic solution. Hardware test results for a 2–variable problem further serve to strengthen the proposed theory
