    Design and miniaturization of a microsystem to power biomedical implants using grey wolf optimizer-based cuckoo search algorithm

    One of the greatest techniques, inductive coupling is frequently utilized in the biomedical sector for wireless energy transfer to implants. The aim of this article is to develop and analyze the effect of inductor geometrical characteristics, distance between transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) and also the operating frequency on the wireless power transfer system, using grey wolf optimizer-based cuckoo search (GWO-CS) algorithm. Power transfer efficiency (PTE), power provided to load, and other critical components must all be improved or maximized and miniaturaze the microsystem proposed. The invention, design, and optimization of coils square spirals in a wireless energy transfer system using a resonant inductive link are the emphasis of this paper. The GWO-CS approach is evaluated to existing methods, demonstrated by simulations and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested strategy

    A Comparison between Class-E DC-DC Design Methodologies for Wireless Power Transfer

    We consider the design of Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems based on inductive links and focus on recent works where the whole WPT system (i.e. both energy transmitter and energy receiver) is designed as an isolated resonant class-E DC-DC converter characterized by a loosely-coupled transformer. The aim of this work is to compare the classic WPT design approach with a novel one, which allows achieving the same performance with a significant reduction in the number of reactive components of the circuit, with beneficial effects in terms of system complexity, size, and cost. We will also show that such a reduction in the number of reactive components leads to improved performance robustness to variations in the inductive link coupling factor

    Micro air vehicles energy transportation for a wireless power transfer system

    The aim of this work is to demonstrate the feasibility use of an Micro air vehicles (MAV) in order to power wirelessly an electric system, for example, a sensor network, using low-cost and open-source elements. To achieve this objective, an inductive system has been modelled and validated to power wirelessly a sensor node using a Crazyflie 2.0 as MAV. The design of the inductive system must be small and light enough to fulfil the requirements of the Crazyflie. An inductive model based on two resonant coils is presented. Several coils are defined to be tested using the most suitable resonant configuration. Measurements are performed to validate the model and to select the most suitable coil. While attempting to minimize the weight at transmitter’s side, on the receiver side it is intended to efficiently acquire and manage the power obtained from the transmitter. In order to prove its feasibility, a temperature sensor node is used as demonstrator. The experiment results show successfully energy transportation by MAV, and wireless power transfer for the resonant configuration, being able to completely charge the node battery and to power the temperature sensor.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Design of a Feedback-Controlled Wireless Converter for Electric Vehicle Wireless Charging Applications

    Electric vehicles (EVs) have played an important role in the modern transporta-tion system in recent years. However, current generations of EVs face unsolved drawbacks such as short driving range, long charging time, and high cost due to expensive battery systems. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a promising technology that is able to mitigate the drawbacks EVs are facing. This paper focuses on investigating and building a complete high-efficiency WPT system that is capable of efficiently charging electric vehicles. The goal is to design and ap-ply two different configurations of compensation networks to the WPT system. In this paper, the two compensation network configurations studied are LLC and LCC. After comparing their operational characteristics and efficiencies, the most suitable configuration is proposed. Moreover, a phase-shifted controller is applied in order to regulate the power transferred through the WPT system
