A Statistical Modelling of the Underwater Acoustic Channel

    No full text
International audienceThe underwater acoustic channel (UWA) is a frequency selective (presence of multi-path) and non stationary [1] [2] [4]. In order to develop several techniques adapted to the UWA channel, it is important to know the characteristics of this kind of channel propagation. In this paper, we suppose that the channel is stationary during the length of a block. Our goal consists in modelling the UWA channel based on analyzing real signals obtained by measuring apparatus and acquired from GESMA [8]. Our method of channel estimation is validated through known multipath channel. A statistical study of the estimated UWA channel such as the number of paths, the attenuation of the principal path and the delay between the principal and the secondary paths have been shown. The distribution law of these channel characteristics are presented
