Data Flow/Operating System : DF/OS
This paper discusses a new approach to the design of operating systems. We view the jobs or tasks in this system as a number of small independent steps or functions which are sequenced together to produce a desired result. The conÂcepts upon which this operating system is based are drawn from the concepts found in the Data Flow Architectures. Described are the design points of this operating system, which is known as the Data Flow/Operating System (DF/OS). This operating system invokes a Data Flow Module only when the module's input data is present and routes the output of one Data Flow Module to another Data Flow Module. A list of follow-on issues is also presented in the conclusion
