Large deviations of cascade processes on graphs
Simple models of irreversible dynamical processes such as Bootstrap
Percolation have been successfully applied to describe cascade processes in a
large variety of different contexts. However, the problem of analyzing
non-typical trajectories, which can be crucial for the understanding of the
out-of-equilibrium phenomena, is still considered to be intractable in most
cases. Here we introduce an efficient method to find and analyze optimized
trajectories of cascade processes. We show that for a wide class of
irreversible dynamical rules, this problem can be solved efficiently on
large-scale systems
Diffusion Adaptation Strategies for Distributed Estimation over Gaussian Markov Random Fields
The aim of this paper is to propose diffusion strategies for distributed
estimation over adaptive networks, assuming the presence of spatially
correlated measurements distributed according to a Gaussian Markov random field
(GMRF) model. The proposed methods incorporate prior information about the
statistical dependency among observations, while at the same time processing
data in real-time and in a fully decentralized manner. A detailed mean-square
analysis is carried out in order to prove stability and evaluate the
steady-state performance of the proposed strategies. Finally, we also
illustrate how the proposed techniques can be easily extended in order to
incorporate thresholding operators for sparsity recovery applications.
Numerical results show the potential advantages of using such techniques for

Online Localization and Tracking of Multiple Moving Speakers in Reverberant Environments
We address the problem of online localization and tracking of multiple moving
speakers in reverberant environments. The paper has the following
contributions. We use the direct-path relative transfer function (DP-RTF), an
inter-channel feature that encodes acoustic information robust against
reverberation, and we propose an online algorithm well suited for estimating
DP-RTFs associated with moving audio sources. Another crucial ingredient of the
proposed method is its ability to properly assign DP-RTFs to audio-source
directions. Towards this goal, we adopt a maximum-likelihood formulation and we
propose to use an exponentiated gradient (EG) to efficiently update
source-direction estimates starting from their currently available values. The
problem of multiple speaker tracking is computationally intractable because the
number of possible associations between observed source directions and physical
speakers grows exponentially with time. We adopt a Bayesian framework and we
propose a variational approximation of the posterior filtering distribution
associated with multiple speaker tracking, as well as an efficient variational
expectation-maximization (VEM) solver. The proposed online localization and
tracking method is thoroughly evaluated using two datasets that contain
