Maximum Entropy and Inverse Problems in Image Reconstruction
In many imaging systems we have ta solve integral equations of the first kind,
which, in general, are ill-posed inverse problems. In these problems one cannot
obtain a satisfactory unique and robust solution without introduction of some
prior information on the solution .
A prior information often used in many imaging applications is the positivity of
the solution . Methods based on the maximum entropy principle are classically
developed to take this property into account . However the use of the maximum
entropy principle is not limited to this case . In the last decade, many works have
been done on the ways of using maximum entropy principle in inverse problems .
The main objective of this paper is to make a classification of these methods,
to give explicitly the hypothesis, the practical and the theoretical limitations, to
show the existing relations between them, and finally, to give some synthetic view
of different implementations of theses methods . First we distinguish three fundamentally
différent approaches which we call Classical MaxEnt, MaxEnt in mean
and Bayesian MaxEnt. Then, in each approach, we describe the différent methods
and algorithms which are obtained when the nature and the amount of the
available data change and we give explicit relations between all these methods.
