A Critical Discussion about an Agent Platform based on FIPA Specification

Agent-oriented programming is a possible solution to interoperability. In this paper we focus on the proposal of the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agent (FIPA) and our implementation of an agent platform that is FIPA compliant. The FIPA's reference model seems to be an effective answer to the endeavour of agent standardisation. Nevertheless, FIPA requirements are not clear in some fundamental aspects. For example the definition of Agent Universe is ambiguous, the requirements specify the communication protocol (IIOP) but not the related directory service. In this paper we discuss these aspects and propose some possible solutions
