An infrastructure service recommendation system for cloud applications with real-time QoS requirement constraints
The proliferation of cloud computing has revolutionized the hosting and delivery of Internet-based application services. However, with the constant launch of new cloud services and capabilities almost every month by both big (e.g., Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure) and small companies (e.g., Rackspace and Ninefold), decision makers (e.g., application developers and chief information officers) are likely to be overwhelmed by choices available. The decision-making problem is further complicated due to heterogeneous service configurations and application provisioning QoS constraints. To address this hard challenge, in our previous work, we developed a semiautomated, extensible, and ontology-based approach to infrastructure service discovery and selection only based on design-time constraints (e.g., the renting cost, the data center location, the service feature, etc.). In this paper, we extend our approach to include the real-time (run-time) QoS (the end-to-end message latency and the end-to-end message throughput) in the decision-making process. The hosting of next-generation applications in the domain of online interactive gaming, large-scale sensor analytics, and real-time mobile applications on cloud services necessitates the optimization of such real-time QoS constraints for meeting service-level agreements. To this end, we present a real-time QoS-aware multicriteria decision-making technique that builds over the well-known analytic hierarchy process method. The proposed technique is applicable to selecting Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud offers, and it allows users to define multiple design-time and real-time QoS constraints or requirements. These requirements are then matched against our knowledge base to compute the possible best fit combinations of cloud services at the IaaS layer. Model-driven Scheduling for Distributed Stream Processing Systems
Distributed Stream Processing frameworks are being commonly used with the
evolution of Internet of Things(IoT). These frameworks are designed to adapt to
the dynamic input message rate by scaling in/out.Apache Storm, originally
developed by Twitter is a widely used stream processing engine while others
includes Flink, Spark streaming. For running the streaming applications
successfully there is need to know the optimal resource requirement, as
over-estimation of resources adds extra cost.So we need some strategy to come
up with the optimal resource requirement for a given streaming application. In
this article, we propose a model-driven approach for scheduling streaming
applications that effectively utilizes a priori knowledge of the applications
to provide predictable scheduling behavior. Specifically, we use application
performance models to offer reliable estimates of the resource allocation
required. Further, this intuition also drives resource mapping, and helps
narrow the estimated and actual dataflow performance and resource utilization.
Together, this model-driven scheduling approach gives a predictable application
performance and resource utilization behavior for executing a given DSPS
application at a target input stream rate on distributed resources.Comment: 54 page
Strengthening e-banking security using keystroke dynamics
This paper investigates keystroke dynamics and its possible use as a tool to prevent or detect fraud in the banking industry. Given that banks are constantly on the lookout for improved methods to address the menace of fraud, the paper sets out to review keystroke dynamics, its advantages, disadvantages and potential for improving the security of e-banking systems. This paper evaluates keystroke dynamics suitability of use for enhancing security in the banking sector. Results from the literature review found that keystroke dynamics can offer impressive accuracy rates for user identification. Low costs of deployment and minimal change to users modus operandi make this technology an attractive investment for banks. The paper goes on to argue that although this behavioural biometric may not be suitable as a primary method of authentication, it can be used as a secondary or tertiary method to complement existing authentication systems

Multimedia delivery in the future internet
The term “Networked Media” implies that all kinds of media including text, image, 3D graphics, audio
and video are produced, distributed, shared, managed and consumed on-line through various networks,
like the Internet, Fiber, WiFi, WiMAX, GPRS, 3G and so on, in a convergent manner [1]. This white
paper is the contribution of the Media Delivery Platform (MDP) cluster and aims to cover the Networked
challenges of the Networked Media in the transition to the Future of the Internet.
Internet has evolved and changed the way we work and live. End users of the Internet have been confronted
with a bewildering range of media, services and applications and of technological innovations concerning
media formats, wireless networks, terminal types and capabilities. And there is little evidence that the pace
of this innovation is slowing. Today, over one billion of users access the Internet on regular basis, more
than 100 million users have downloaded at least one (multi)media file and over 47 millions of them do so
regularly, searching in more than 160 Exabytes1 of content. In the near future these numbers are expected
to exponentially rise. It is expected that the Internet content will be increased by at least a factor of 6, rising
to more than 990 Exabytes before 2012, fuelled mainly by the users themselves. Moreover, it is envisaged
that in a near- to mid-term future, the Internet will provide the means to share and distribute (new)
multimedia content and services with superior quality and striking flexibility, in a trusted and personalized
way, improving citizens’ quality of life, working conditions, edutainment and safety.
In this evolving environment, new transport protocols, new multimedia encoding schemes, cross-layer inthe
network adaptation, machine-to-machine communication (including RFIDs), rich 3D content as well as
community networks and the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays are expected to generate new models of
interaction and cooperation, and be able to support enhanced perceived quality-of-experience (PQoE) and
innovative applications “on the move”, like virtual collaboration environments, personalised services/
media, virtual sport groups, on-line gaming, edutainment. In this context, the interaction with content
combined with interactive/multimedia search capabilities across distributed repositories, opportunistic P2P
networks and the dynamic adaptation to the characteristics of diverse mobile terminals are expected to
contribute towards such a vision.
Based on work that has taken place in a number of EC co-funded projects, in Framework Program 6 (FP6)
and Framework Program 7 (FP7), a group of experts and technology visionaries have voluntarily
contributed in this white paper aiming to describe the status, the state-of-the art, the challenges and the way
ahead in the area of Content Aware media delivery platforms
End-to-End Application Cloning for Distributed Cloud Microservices with Ditto
We present Ditto, an automated framework for cloning end-to-end cloud
applications, both monolithic and microservices, which captures I/O and network
activity, as well as kernel operations, in addition to application logic. Ditto
takes a hierarchical approach to application cloning, starting with capturing
the dependency graph across distributed services, to recreating each tier's
control/data flow, and finally generating system calls and assembly that mimics
the individual applications. Ditto does not reveal the logic of the original
application, facilitating publicly sharing clones of production services with
hardware vendors, cloud providers, and the research community.
We show that across a diverse set of single- and multi-tier applications,
Ditto accurately captures their CPU and memory characteristics as well as their
high-level performance metrics, is portable across platforms, and facilitates a
wide range of system studies
