    Electronic excited state of protonated aromatic molecules: protonated Fluorene

    The photo-fragmentation spectrum of protonated fluorene has been recorded in the visible spectral region, largely red shifted as compared to the first excited state absorption of neutral fluorene. The spectrum shows two different vibrational progressions, separated by 0.19 eV that are assigned to the absorption of two isomers. As in protonated linear PAHs, comparison with ab-initio calculations indicates that the red shift is due to the charge transfer character of the excited state

    Hadronization of massive quark matter

    We present a fast hadronization model for the constituent quark plasma (CQP) produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions at SPS. The model is based on rate equations and on an equation of state inspired by the string phenomenology. This equation of state has a confining character. We display the time evolution of the relevant physical quantities during the hadronization process and the final hadron multiplicities.     Late-Time Photometry of Type Ia Supernova SN 2012cg Reveals the Radioactive Decay of 57^{57}Co

    Seitenzahl et al. (2009) have predicted that roughly three years after its explosion, the light we receive from a Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) will come mostly from reprocessing of electrons and X-rays emitted by the radioactive decay chain 57Co  57Fe^{57}{\rm Co}~\to~^{57}{\rm Fe}, instead of positrons from the decay chain 56Co  56Fe^{56}{\rm Co}~\to~^{56}{\rm Fe} that dominates the SN light at earlier times. Using the {\it Hubble Space Telescope}, we followed the light curve of the SN Ia SN 2012cg out to 10551055 days after maximum light. Our measurements are consistent with the light curves predicted by the contribution of energy from the reprocessing of electrons and X-rays emitted by the decay of 57^{57}Co, offering evidence that 57^{57}Co is produced in SN Ia explosions. However, the data are also consistent with a light echo 14\sim14 mag fainter than SN 2012cg at peak. Assuming no light-echo contamination, the mass ratio of 57^{57}Ni and 56^{56}Ni produced by the explosion, a strong constraint on any SN Ia explosion model, is 0.0430.011+0.0120.043^{+0.012}_{-0.011}, roughly twice Solar. In the context of current explosion models, this value favors a progenitor white dwarf with a mass near the Chandrasekhar limit.Comment: Updated to reflect the final version published by ApJ.     Synthesizing Imperative Programs from Examples Guided by Static Analysis

    We present a novel algorithm that synthesizes imperative programs for introductory programming courses. Given a set of input-output examples and a partial program, our algorithm generates a complete program that is consistent with every example. Our key idea is to combine enumerative program synthesis and static analysis, which aggressively prunes out a large search space while guaranteeing to find, if any, a correct solution. We have implemented our algorithm in a tool, called SIMPL, and evaluated it on 30 problems used in introductory programming courses. The results show that SIMPL is able to solve the benchmark problems in 6.6 seconds on average.Comment: The paper is accepted in Static Analysis Symposium (SAS) '17.
