    Penelitian Pemanfaatan Minarex Sebagai Softener Untuk Pembuatan Rol Karet Gilingan Padi

    The objective of the research is to use minarex (new product from PERTAMINA) as a softener for making rice mill roller compound. The formula of the compound applied four kinds of minarex, namely A, B, C and D minarex, type 2 and 3 each, by varying minarex : 3, 4, and 5 parts. The mastication and mixing process used two roll mill machine and the compound was vulcanized at 150oC the pressure 150 Kg/Cm2 and 9 minute curing time. Then it should be tested their_physical properties : tensile strength, elongation at break, abrasion resistance, hardness before and after aging. The result of the test statistically prove that all minarex for 5 parts is the best physical properties and fulfilled the specificatioh, of SII 1902 - 86 "Rol karet gilingan padi" except minarex A.     Crude palm oil wastes in the form of fly ash is potentially use as filler for thermoset rubber because it contains silica. This study aims to increase the mechanical and morphological properties of thermoset rubber which filled with mixture of carbon black and fly ash with particles size screened to 700-800nm. Stearic Acid, MBTS and sulfur contents were used 1; 2; 3 phr (per hundred rubber), 0.5; 1; 1.5 phr and 0.5; 1.5; 3 phr respectively. Rubber mastication process performed by a roll mill at room temperature and roll speed of 20 rpm until the texture is smooth and soft, then added minarex as a plasticizer, nanofiller, and other additives, such as ZnO as an activator, stearic acid as a co-activator, as antidegradant TMQ, MBTS as an accelerator and sulfur as a curative agent. Rubber mastication performed by a roll mill at room temperature and roll speed of 20 rpm. The overall duration of the manufacture of compound ±45 minutes. Vulcanization process using a hot press at a pressure of 200 kgf/cm2 and a temperature of 150 oC. Results showed that increased levels of stearic acid, MBTS and sulfur is directly proportional to the tensile strength, but yield elongation at break are varied. The best thermoset rubber in this study were obtained on samples having content of stearic acid 3 phr, MBTS 1.5 phr and sulfur 3 phr with tensile strength values 19,05 MPa, 774.394 % elongation at break, hardness 52±5 shore A, abration 0,074 mm3/kg and 1,28% water absorption percentage

    This research aims to know how much maximum paraffinic oil as plasticizer which may be added to rubber roll for rice mill. The physical properties of the rubber roll compound is tested about its tensile strength, elongation at break and abrasion resistence suit to SII 1902-86. Paraffinic oil as plasticizer which fulfil a condition suit to the SII 1902-86 are paraffinic P 60 type 2, paraffinic P 60 tipe 3 and paraffinic P 95 type 2 with amount each 5 parts.     Mechanical And Thermal Properties Of Thermally Conductive Fillers Filled Polypropylene Composites

    The current study was carried out to investigate the effect of various fillers for example (such as) carbon nanotube (MWNT), synthetic diamond (SD), boron nitride (BN) and copper (Cu) on the properties of polypropylene (PP) composites. This composite was compounded using two roll mill mixing method and the filler content was loaded from 1 to 4 volume %. It was observed that the PP/SD, PP/BN and PP/Cu exhibited maximum tensile strength at 2 volume % and a reduction trend can be observed after 2 volume %. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the fractured structure of the composites, and it was observed that agglomeration increased as the filler loading increased. Thermal conductivity, thermal stability, coefficient of thermalexpansion (CTE) and storage modulus of the composites were improved by addition of fillers in PP. Among these four fillers, MWNT showed greater potential in improving thermal properties of PP composites. In the second series, the effects of hybrid filler (MWNT/SD and MWNT/BN) in PP composites were studied. The results showed that the thermal conductivity, thermal stability, coefficient of thermal expansion and storage modulus of the hybrid composites were improved if compared to single fillers composites. However, the tensile and flexural properties of hybrid composites were noted to be lower than the single composites. In the third series, the improvements in the compounding were carried out by using two compounding methods; planetary ball mill and two roll mill. Enhancement in strength, stiffness, thermal conductivity and storage modulus of the composites has been observed in this system. Nevertheless, the thermal stability was found to be reduced as the two compounding methods were used in the fabrication process

    3D finite element modeling of edge and width drop behavior in hot rolling mill

    Hot rough rolling is a conventional forming process in modern steelmaking practice in which high deformations are applied to a steel slab at high temperatures. Due to the sequence of edge rolling followed by rough rolling, so-called edge and width drop phenomena are observed at the head and tail of the slab. These unwanted effects govern a yield loss and need to be minimized as much as possible. By means of a finite element study this research aims to discover the main influencing parameters on the observed edge and width drop behavior. An overview and comparison of the relative contributions of several edge rolling settings are presented. The net edger roll opening is the most important influencing parameter on edge and width drop behavior. The effect of width and thickness of the slab on the edge drop is less strongly pronounced; only the thickness influences the width drop behavior.</jats:p

    A computer-controlled four-roll mill for investigations of particle and drop dynamics in two-dimensional linear shear flows

    In this paper we describe the design and operating characteristics of a computer-controlled four-roll mill for investigations of particle and drop dynamics in two-dimensional linear flows. The control system is based upon the use of: a video camera to visualize the instantaneous position of the drop or particle; a PDP 11/23 computer, with a pipeline processor acting as an interface between the camera and computer, to calculate the position and implement a control strategy, and d.c. stepping motors to convert an electronic signal to angular velocities of the four rollers. The control objective is to keep the centre of mass of the drop/particle at the centre of the region between the rollers where there is a stagnation point in the undisturbed flow, while maintaining the shear-rate and the ratio of vorticity to strain rate in the flow at fixed values. The resulting system is suitable for studies of: the rotational motions of single solid particles; the deformation and burst of single droplets; or the hydrodynamic interactions of two particles or drops, one of which is held with its centre-of-mass fixed at the stagnation point of the undisturbed flow. In all cases, the flow can be varied from pure rotation to pure strain, and the shear rate can be either steady or changing as a prescribed function of time

    The measurement of velocity gradients in laminar flow by homodyne light-scattering spectroscopy

    A technique for measuring velocity gradients in laminar flows by homodyne light scattering is presented. A theory which describes the light-scattering spectrum is derived that includes the effects of different types of linear flow fields, particle diffusion and the intensity profile in the scattering volume. The conditions which must be satisfied in order that the theory describe the experimental situation are outlined and complementary experiments are performed which both verify the theory and apply the technique. Verification is provided using the flow in a Couette device, and the flow due to single rotating cylinder in a large bath of fluid. The technique is then applied to measure the spatial variation of the shear rate in a four-roll mill

    Ergonomic provision of modernizing management processes of metallurgical production in Ukraine and China

    Purpose. The creation ofan ergonomic methodical approach to the modernization of management processes of metallurgical production, which involves a human factor while developing and exploiting the difficult man-machine system and estimating the degree of implementation of ergonomic requirements at different stages of an operator’s activity planning. Methodology. Ananalytical model of the organization of the research works devoted to the ergonomic modernization of man-machine systems was developed. Searching and purpose-oriented investigations at different stages of man-machine system development and exploitation were modelled from the sketchy projection till the exploitation of the system. Theoretical, system analytical and experimental methods were used. Findings.The results of ergonomic modernization of management processes of metallurgical production in two countries under new economic (market) conditions were discussed. The factors, which define the tension in rolling-mill operators’ activity, were exposed. Certain recommendations on modernization of the existing technology and labor organization were formulated. Originality. The scientific novelty consists in the development and adaptation of the methodical approach that describes adequately the cognitive complexity and psychophysiological tension in an operator’s activity as the modernization factors of modern metallurgical production in two countries. Practical value.The practical value involves the creation of an ergonomic management system of the development, exploitation and modernization of difficult men-machine systems and metallurgical production management processes

    Determination of Inter-Phase Line Tension in Langmuir Films

    A Langmuir film is a molecularly thin film on the surface of a fluid; we study the evolution of a Langmuir film with two co-existing fluid phases driven by an inter-phase line tension and damped by the viscous drag of the underlying subfluid. Experimentally, we study an 8CB Langmuir film via digitally-imaged Brewster Angle Microscopy (BAM) in a four-roll mill setup which applies a transient strain and images the response. When a compact domain is stretched by the imposed strain, it first assumes a bola shape with two tear-drop shaped reservoirs connected by a thin tether which then slowly relaxes to a circular domain which minimizes the interfacial energy of the system. We process the digital images of the experiment to extract the domain shapes. We then use one of these shapes as an initial condition for the numerical solution of a boundary-integral model of the underlying hydrodynamics and compare the subsequent images of the experiment to the numerical simulation. The numerical evolutions first verify that our hydrodynamical model can reproduce the observed dynamics. They also allow us to deduce the magnitude of the line tension in the system, often to within 1%. We find line tensions in the range of 200-600 pN; we hypothesize that this variation is due to differences in the layer depths of the 8CB fluid phases.Comment: See (http://www.math.hmc.edu/~ajb/bola/) for related movie
