    The induced 2-tuple linguistic generalized OWA operator and its application in linguistic decision making

    We present the induced 2-tuple linguistic generalized ordered weighted averaging (2-TILGOWA) operator. This new aggregation operator extends previous approaches by using generalized means, order-inducing variables in the reordering of the arguments and linguistic information represented with the 2-tuple linguistic approach. Its main advantage is that it includes a wide range of linguistic aggregation operators. Thus, its analyses can be seen from different perspectives and we obtain a much more complete picture of the situation considered and are able to select the alternative that best fits with with our interests or beliefs. We further generalize the operator by using quasi-arithmetic means, and obtain the Quasi-2-TILOWA operator.     Managing Interacting Criteria: Application to Environmental Evaluation Practices

    The need for organizations to evaluate their environmental practices has been recently increasing. This fact has led to the development of many approaches to appraise such practices. In this paper, a novel decision model to evaluate company’s environmental practices is proposed to improve traditional evaluation process in different facets. Firstly, different reviewers’ collectives related to the company’s activity are taken into account in the process to increase company internal efficiency and external legitimacy. Secondly, following the standard ISO 14031, two general categories of environmental performance indicators, management and operational, are considered. Thirdly, since the assumption of independence among environmental indicators is rarely verified in environmental context, an aggregation operator to bear in mind the relationship among such indicators in the evaluation results is proposed. Finally, this new model integrates quantitative and qualitative information with different scales using a multi-granular linguistic model that allows to adapt diverse evaluation scales according to appraisers’ knowledge

    This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND licenseEste trabajo presenta un modelo lingüístico de toma de decisión que aporta además una solución software para poder aplicar la validación de constructo mediante juicio de expertos totalmente online y con asistencia al cálculo del consenso y a la toma de decisión en cuanto a los cambios que se debe tomar para mejorar de forma iterativa un instrumento de toma de datos. La idea clave es validar el cuestionario definiendo la validez de cada ítem como un problema de Toma de Decisiones. Tomando la opinión de expertos, medimos el grado de consenso, el grado de consistencia y la puntuación lingüística de cada ítem, con el fin de detectar aquellos ítems que afectan, positiva o negativamente, a la calidad del instrumento. El trabajo aborda un caso real de validación de instrumentos. Para ello se ocupa de la necesidad en contextos educativos de evaluar una experiencia de blended learning con un cuestionario consensuado que abarca dimensiones relativas a Flipped Classroom y Mobile Learning. Además, contribuimos a este problema de consenso desarrollando una herramienta online bajo licencia GPL v3. El software visualiza las valoraciones colectivas para cada iteración y ayuda a determinar qué partes del cuestionario deben modificarse para alcanzar una solución consensuada.This work presents a linguistic decision-making model that also provides a software solution for applying construct validation by means of fully online expert judgment and with assistance in calculating consensus and making decisions regarding the changes to be made to iteratively improve a data collection instrument. The key idea is to validate the questionnaire by defining the validity of each item as a Decision Making problem. Taking expert opinion, we measure the degree of consensus, the degree of consistency and the linguistic score of each item, in order to detect those items that affect, positively or negatively, the quality of the instrument. The model deals with a real case of instrument validation. It deals with the need in educational contexts to evaluate a blended learning experience with a consensual questionnaire that covers dimensions related to Flipped Classroom and Mobile Learning. In addition, we contribute to this consensus problem by developing an online tool under GPL v3 license.     Using Fuzzy Linguistic Representations to Provide Explanatory Semantics for Data Warehouses

    A data warehouse integrates large amounts of extracted and summarized data from multiple sources for direct querying and analysis. While it provides decision makers with easy access to such historical and aggregate data, the real meaning of the data has been ignored. For example, "whether a total sales amount 1,000 items indicates a good or bad sales performance" is still unclear. From the decision makers' point of view, the semantics rather than raw numbers which convey the meaning of the data is very important. In this paper, we explore the use of fuzzy technology to provide this semantics for the summarizations and aggregates developed in data warehousing systems. A three layered data warehouse semantic model, consisting of quantitative (numerical) summarization, qualitative (categorical) summarization, and quantifier summarization, is proposed for capturing and explicating the semantics of warehoused data. Based on the model, several algebraic operators are defined. We also extend the SQL language to allow for flexible queries against such enhanced data warehouses

    An Integrative Decision-Making Mechanism for Consumers’ Brand Selection using 2-Tuple Fuzzy Linguistic Perceptions and Decision Heuristics

    Consumers perform decision-making (DM) processes to select their preferred brands during their entire consumer journeys. These DM processes are based on the multiple perceptions they have about the products available in the market they are aware of. These consumers usually perform different DM strategies and employ diverse heuristics depending on the nature of the purchase, ranging from more pure optimal choices to faster decisions. Therefore, the design of realistic DM approaches for modeling these consumer behaviors requires a good representation of consumer perceptions and a reliable process for integrating their corresponding heuristics. In this work, we use fuzzy linguistic information to represent consumer perceptions and propose four consumer DM heuristics to model the qualitative linguistic information for the consumer buying decision. In particular, we use 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic variables, which is a substantially more natural and realistic representation without falling in a loss of information. The set of selected heuristics differ in the degree of involvement the consumers give to their decisions. Additionally, we propose a heuristic selection mechanism to integrate the four heuristics in a single DM procedure by using a regulation parameter. Our experimental analysis shows that the combination of these heuristics in a portfolio manner improves the performance of our model with a realistic representation of consumer perceptions. The model’s outcome matches the expected behavior of the consumers in several real market scenarios

Different proposals that either grouping such different meanings (uncertainty) to provide one representation for all people or use multi-granular linguistic term sets with the semantics of each granularity, have been developed and applied in the specialized literature. Despite these models are quite useful they do not model individually yet the different meanings of each person when he/she elicits linguistic information. Hence, in this paper a personalized individual semantics (PIS) model is proposed to personalize individual semantics by means of an interval numerical scale and the 2-tuple linguistic model. Specifically, a consistency-driven optimization-based model to obtain and represent the PIS is introduced. A new CW framework based on the 2-tuple linguistic model is then defined, such a CW framework allows us to deal with PIS to facilitate CW keeping the idea that words mean different things to different people.     Prioritization of the launch of ICT products and services through linguistic multi-criteria decision-making

    The market launch of new products and services is a basic pillar for large and medium-sized companies in the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector. Choosing the right moment for it is usually a differentiating factor in terms of competition, since it is a source of competitive advantage. There are several mechanisms and strategies to address this problem from the market perspective. However, the criteria of the different actors involved – managers, sales representatives, experts, etc. – coexist in the corporate sphere and they often differ, causing difficulties in priority setting processes in the launch of a product or service. The assessment of the prioritization of these criteria is usually expressed in natural language, thus adding a great deal of uncertainty. Fuzzy linguistic models have proved to be an efficient tool for managing the intrinsic uncertainty of this type of information. This paper presents a linguistic multi-criteria decision-making model, able to reconcile the different requirements and viewpoints existing in the corporate sector when planning the launch of new products and services. The proposed model is based on the fuzzy 2-tuple linguistic model, aimed at managing linguistic data expressing different corporate criteria, without compromising accuracy in the calculation of said data.     Generalized Evidence Theory

    Conflict management is still an open issue in the application of Dempster Shafer evidence theory. A lot of works have been presented to address this issue. In this paper, a new theory, called as generalized evidence theory (GET), is proposed. Compared with existing methods, GET assumes that the general situation is in open world due to the uncertainty and incomplete knowledge. The conflicting evidence is handled under the framework of GET. It is shown that the new theory can explain and deal with the conflicting evidence in a more reasonable way.Comment: 39 pages, 5 figure
