Advancing environmental information in the Eastern Caribbean: towards the establishment of the OECS environmental information system

Abstract

This document contains a summary of the progress made towards the establishment of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) environmental information system with the support of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Its purpose is to provide the background, legal framework, key considerations and proposed road map for such a system, in the context of the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean (Escazú Agreement), the Saint George’s Declaration of Principles for Environmental Sustainability in the OECS, and other international and regional commitments. It also presents findings on data availability and inventory in six OECS member States, as well as a proposed baseline and conclusions, with recommendations on the way forward
