The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the student financial management system implemented at Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzul Qur’an (PPTQ) Ahmad Dahlan Ponorogo. The main focus of the research includes aspects of transparency, efficiency, and the impact on students' financial behavior. Proper financial management not only reflects the institutional accountability of the pesantren but also plays an important role in character education, particularly in fostering students' sense of responsibility and financial discipline.
This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data collection techniques include direct observation, interviews with financial administrators and supervisors, as well as documentation. The research focuses on four main aspects: system implementation, the effectiveness of the smart card usage, supporting factors, and challenges in the implementation of the system.
The financial management system using smart cards at PPTQ Ahmad Dahlan has been in place for a considerable period. The implementation of the smart card system has improved transaction regularity, enhanced transparency, and facilitated financial monitoring by the pesantren and students’ guardians. This system has also positively contributed to shaping students’ financial behavior, encouraging them to be more disciplined and responsible in managing their pocket money.
The smart card-based financial management system at PPTQ Ahmad Dahlan Ponorogo is considered effective in supporting student financial governance. It functions not only as a financial control tool but also as a contextual and practical financial learning medium for the students. The effectiveness of this system is supported by several factors, including the strong commitment of the pesantren's management, the involvement of students' guardians, and adequate technological infrastructure.
However, several obstacles were encountered in its implementation, such as limited technological literacy among new students and a lack of continuous training for staff. The findings imply that the success of the system heavily relies on the synergy between technological support and character development of the students to ensure that the system operates optimally and sustainably
