Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that can cause serious complications such as stroke, kidney failure, and heart disease. One way to control hypertension is by improving patients' self-care behavior. However, awareness and knowledge of self-care among hypertensive patients remain low. The lack of understanding and adherence to self-care practices among hypertensive patients hinders hypertension control efforts. This indicates the need for an effective educational intervention to raise awareness and improve self-care behavior.
This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretestposttest approach. The sample consisted of 20 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was the Hypertension Self Management Behavior Questionnaire (HSMBQ). The intervention involved health
education using a booklet containing information about hypertension management and the importance of self-care. The booklet was distributed to all respondents, with measurements taken before and after the intervention.
Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant improvement in self-care after the educational intervention. The pvalue was < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of health education using booklet
media on increasing self-care in hypertensive patients.
Health education using booklet media is effective in improving self-care behavior among hypertensive patients. This intervention can serve as an educational strategy for health workers in community-based hypertension control
programs.
