Volksmusik trifft Volksstadt : Der Einfluss von (schulischer) Ausbildung auf den musikalischen Outcome einer Großstadt am Beispiel Graz

Abstract

Musik führt zu Erfolg in der Schule, Erfolg in der Entwicklung von Intelligenz, Erfolg in der Gesellschaft und Erfolg im Leben, so Ken Petress (2005). Naheliegend, dass musikalische Ausbildung bereits früh gefördert werden sollte. Gleichzeitig bringt die Vielschichtigkeit von Musik sowohl Chancen als auch Schwierigkeiten mit sich. Es wird weitgehend angenommen, dass die volkskulturelle Musikszene vorwiegend in ländlichen Gegenden dominant vertreten ist. Dabei bietet gerade die Stadt einen zentralen Ort für traditionelle Kulturausübung. Dieser Beitrag hinterfragt, welche musikalischen Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten es in Graz gibt und wie sie das volksmusikalische Outcome der Stadt beeinflussen. Durch qualitative Interviews mit Musiklehrenden und qualitative Ergebnisse von 392 Teilnehmenden einer Onlineumfrage zeigt sich, dass Volksmusik in der Stadt praktiziert wird, neben anderen Musikgenres aber deutlich weniger Sichtbarkeit erfährt. Eine Möglichkeit, um Volksmusik auch in der Stadt präsenter zu machen, liegt in der Ausbildung, vor allem in der Lehrendenausbildung. It is widely assumed that the folk music scene dominates predominantly in rural areas. Yet it is precisely the city that offers a central location for traditional cultural practice. This article examines what musical training opportunities are available in Graz and how they influence the city\u27s folk music output. Qualitative interviews with music teachers and qualitative results from 392 participants in an online survey show that folk music is practiced in the city, but is much less visible alongside other music genres.
