Verwaltete Treue: Ein Verzeichnis vereidigter Personen aus dem Norden des regnum Italiae zur Zeit Ludwigs II.

Abstract

[Vorerst nur Titelei, Inhaltsverzeichnis und Summary] Die interdisziplinär angelegte Studie untersucht ein Verzeichnis (breve) mit den Namen von 174 vereidigten Männern, welches am Ende einer im früheren 9. Jahrhundert in Oberitalien entstandenen, heute im Kloster St. Paul in Kärnten verwahrten Rechtshandschrift eingetragen wurde. Paläographisch-kodikologisch wird die Entstehung des Codex im Kloster Bobbio erwiesen und das darin enthaltene Verzeichnis prosopographisch-onomastisch sowie historisch in der westlichen Emilia situiert, wo seine Aufzeichnung durch die Truppenmobilisierung für einen von König Ludwig II. im Jahr 847 geführten Feldzug gegen die Sarazenen in Süditalien, welche kurz zuvor Rom geplündert hatten, veranlasst war. Die Analyse der Handschrift und des darin enthaltenen Verzeichnisses gewähren wertvolle, in Dichte und Genauigkeit ungewöhnliche Einblicke in die sozialgeschichtlichen Voraussetzungen der karolingischen Herrschaft über Oberitalien, in die Zusammensetzung seiner Bevölkerung, in die Gerichtsbarkeit und Gesetzgebung dieser durch Rechtspluralität bestimmten Region, in die Anfertigung von kirchlichen und weltlichen Rechtshandschriften sowie in die vorhandenen militärischen Organisationsstrukturen angesichts einer gravierenden äußeren Bedrohung.[Per il momento solo titolo, indice e riassunto] Questo studio interdisciplinare esamina una lista (breve) con i nomi di 174 uomini che avevano prestato giuramento, inserita alla fine di un manoscritto giuridico redatto al principio del IX secolo nell'Italia settentrionale e ora conservato nel monastero di Sankt Paul in Carinzia. Dal punto di vista paleografico e codicologico si dimostra l'origine del codice nel monastero di Bobbio, e l’elenco in esso contenuto viene collocato a livello onomastico-prosopografico nonché storico nell'Emilia occidentale, dove la sua registrazione fu determinata dalla mobilitazione di truppe per una campagna condotta da re Ludovico II nell'847 nell'Italia meridionale contro i Saraceni, che poco prima avevano saccheggiato Roma. L'analisi del manoscritto e della lista in esso contenuta fornisce preziose indicazioni, insolite per densità e precisione, sui presupposti storico-sociali del dominio carolingio sull'Italia settentrionale, sulla composizione della sua popolazione, sulla giurisdizione e sulla legislazione di questa regione caratterizzata da pluralità giuridica, sulla realizzazione di manoscritti giuridici ecclesiastici e secolari, nonché sulle strutture organizzative militari esistenti di fronte a una grave minaccia esterna.[For now only title, table of contents and summary] The interdisciplinary study investigates a list (breve) recording the names of 174 sworn men, which was entered at the end of a legal manuscript that originated in northern Italy in the early 9th century and is kept today in the monastery of St. Paul in Carinthia. A paleographic and codicological examination reveals that the codex originated in the monastery of Bobbio, and the prosopographic, onomastic and historical research has shown that the directory contained therein was situated in western Emilia, where its recording was occasioned by the mobilisation of troops for a campaign led by King Louis II of Italy in 847 against the Saracens in southern Italy, who had recently plundered Rome. The analysis of the manuscript and the list it contains provide valuable insights, unusual in their depth and precision, into the socio-historical preconditions of Carolingian rule over northern Italy, the composition of its population, the jurisdiction and legislation of this region, which was characterised by legal plurality, the production of ecclesiastical and secular legal manuscripts, and the existing military organisational structures in the face of a serious external threat
