The general objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between hope, suicidal ideation and mental health
in an Ecuadorian sample. In turn, two hypotheses were proposed. H1: There is a statistically significant and positive relationship
between the variables hope and mental health; H2: There is a statistically significant and negative relationship between the variables
hope and suicidal ideation. A quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 1626 people participated,
with a frequency of 689 men and 937 women. Three self-report questionnaires were administered: Hope Scale (HERT), Suicidal
Ideation Scale (PAYKEL) and Goldberg Health Scale (GHQ-28). Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed, using the
SPSS27 statistical program. A significant correlation was found between hope and suicidal ideation ( r = -.325; p < .001) and
between hope and mental health ( r = -.311; p < .001); significant differences were found between suicidal ideation and mental
health between men and women. It is concluded that hope is a protective factor for the preservation of mental health, which affects
the decrease in the prevalence of suicidal ideation.
Uise
