REPRESENTAR EL PROGRESO, PRESERVAR LA TRADICIÓN:FIESTAS CÍVICAS EN LA PROVINCIA DE ÑUBLE 1900-1910

Abstract

The object of the present investigation is to examine the festivities in the province of Ñublearound representations and patriotism between 1900-1910. First, the conformation of sociability and national identity is analyzed. Secondly, it seeks to identify its origin as an invented tradition, a concept established by Eric Hobsbawm and Terence Ranger. In the third place, applying the aforementioned, the festivities in the province of Ñuble are analyzed, as a means to promote a discourse of modernization that allows civilizing and moralizing the population. A fourth category, analyzes the charity parties, which sought to channel the 'Other' (Wagner); and a last category of analysis will refer to the civic celebrations in honor of the military glories of Chile and its heroes.El objeto de la presente investigación es examinar las fiestas en la provincia de Ñuble en torno a las representaciones y patriotismo entre 1900-1910. En primer lugar, se analiza la conformación de la sociabilidad e identidad nacional. En segundo lugar, sebusca identificar su origen como tradición inventada, concepto instaurado por Eric Hobsbawm y Terence Ranger. En tercer lugar, aplicando lo anteriormente señalado, se analiza las fiestas en la provincia de Ñuble, como medio para promover un discurso de modernización que permita civilizar y moralizar a la población. Una cuarta categoría, analiza las fiestas de beneficencia, que buscaron canalizar al „Otro‟ (Wagner); y una ultima categoría de análisis hará referencia a las fiestas cívicas en honor a las glorias militares de Chile y sus héroes
