Welding of Dissimilar Materials in the Production of Railway Components

Abstract

This thesis consists of a theoretical section describing the welding of dissimilar steels in the production of railway components. The selected welding process for dissimilar steels and the procedure for defining the welding parameters are explained. The experimental section involves determining the required parameters, welding technology, and execution of a welded joint between a non-alloy structural steel and an austenitic stainless steel. Welding defects are identified and presented, and a macrographic analysis of the welded joint is conducted and displayed. Using the Schaeffler diagram, the microstructure is predicted, followed by hardness measurement and ferrite content analysis
