Adaptation of local media to new digital trends: the case of Trend Mediji

Abstract

Ovaj završni rad analizira digitalnu vidljivost lokalne medijske kuće Trend Mediji s posebnim fokusom na društvene mreže Instagram i TikTok. U kontekstu sve izraženije digitalizacije medija, cilj istraživanja bio je ocijeniti trenutačnu razinu angažmana, dosega i strategije komunikacije na navedenim platformama te ponuditi prijedloge za unaprjeđenje prisutnosti u digitalnom prostoru. Kroz teorijski pregled razvoja medija, s posebnim naglaskom na lokalne medije i njihove uloge u zajednici, rad kontekstualizira važnost digitalnih kanala za održivost i razvoj manjih medijskih sustava. Na temelju dostupnih podataka i analitičkih alata provedena je kvantitativna analiza profila Trend Medija, pri čemu su mjerene ključne metrike poput broja pregleda, dosegnutih korisnika, rasta pratitelja i stope angažmana. Rezultati pokazuju da Instagram profil ostvaruje stabilan rast, osobito putem Reels formata, dok TikTok bilježi velike oscilacije – od perioda viralnog uspjeha do razdoblja smanjenog interesa i dosega. Identificirani su sadržaji koji ostvaruju iznadprosječan angažman, osobito oni koji tematiziraju lokalna događanja i uključuju prepoznatljive osobe iz zajednice. Preporuke proizašle iz analize uključuju redovitije objavljivanje, usklađivanje sadržaja s interesima publike, uvođenje poziva na akciju i bolje korištenje interaktivnih formata. Zaključno, rad potvrđuje da sustavni pristup planiranju i analizi sadržaja na društvenim mrežama predstavlja ključan korak za jačanje digitalne relevantnosti lokalnih medija.This final thesis analyzes the digital visibility of the local media company Trend Mediji, with a particular focus on the social media platforms Instagram and TikTok. In the context of increasing media digitalization, the goal of the research was to evaluate the current level of engagement, reach, and communication strategies on the mentioned platforms, and to offer recommendations for enhancing digital presence. Through a theoretical overview of media development — with a special emphasis on local media and their role within the community — the paper contextualizes the importance of digital channels for the sustainability and growth of smaller media systems. Based on available data and analytical tools, a quantitative analysis of the Trend Mediji profiles was conducted, measuring key metrics such as number of views, user reach, follower growth, and engagement rate. The results show that the Instagram profile is experiencing steady growth, especially through the Reels format, while TikTok shows significant fluctuations — ranging from periods of viral success to times of reduced interest and reach. Content that generated above-average engagement was identified, particularly posts covering local events and featuring recognizable community figures. The recommendations resulting from the analysis include more consistent posting, aligning content with audience interests, incorporating calls to action, and better use of interactive formats. In conclusion, the thesis confirms that a systematic approach to content planning and analysis on social media is a key step toward strengthening the digital relevance of local media
