The importance of conducting preventive systematic examinations and the role of nurses/technicians in their implementation

Abstract

Health is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Preventive health examinations are medical examinations aimed at early detection of disease, monitoring of the existing condition and preventing the development of disease. The aim of this research work is to collect information on the frequency of preventive health examinations and health habits of the residents of Koprivnicko-Krizevacka Country. This survey was conducted online, i.e. with the help of Google’s application for self-creating survey, for a period of one month, from December 2, 2024 to January 5, 2025. Dana processing was carried out using the „Google Forms“ chart and written interpretation of the dana obtained in the chart. 103 respondents aged 18 to 60+, selected randomly, of different age categories and levels of education, participated in this survey. The results of the conducted research in the Koprivnicko-krizevacka Country show that 53,4% of respondents undergo a preventive medical check-up once a year, most often on their own initiative. The majority of participants chose a typee of preventive check-up that includes an internal medicine examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), laboratory diagnostics and ultrasound. Lack of timer, financial constraints, and fear of the results were the three most common reasons why respondents do not undergo preventive check-ups. Based on the research, the importance of conducting preventive medical examinations is confirmed, as well as the significant role that nurses and medical technicians play in their implementation
