Actividad investigativa estudiantil en la Facultad de Estomatología de Santiago de Cuba, resultados de un quinquenio

Abstract

Introduction: in the preparation of students pursuing the Dentistry career, research activity constitutes a fundamental factor in their comprehensive training, along with teaching and healthcare work. Objective: to characterize the research activity during the period 2019-2023 of the students at the Faculty of Dentistry in Santiago de Cuba. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry in the municipality of Santiago de Cuba. The universe consisted of 144 papers presented during the period of 2019-2023 at the faculty's scientific conference. A sample of 98 was selected, which corresponds to the papers that were awarded. Results: the most represented academic year was the 2nd with 31 students (31.63%). The most presented type of article was the Review Article with 44 investigations (44.9%). The predominant research topic was Diagnosis and treatment (63; 64.29%), and the assistantship of Comprehensive General Dentistry (33; 36.67%). Of the total, 22.72% (15) are published in scientific journals. Conclusions: the research activity of the students of the Faculty of Dentistry was characterized. Effective strategies and tactics must be implemented to achieve an increase and improvement in scientific activity, which will elevate the research profile of the graduate.Introducción: en la preparación de los estudiantes de la carrera Estomatología, la actividad investigativa constituye un factor fundamental en la formación integral, junto con la docencia y la labor asistencial.  Objetivo: caracterizar la actividad investigativa durante el período 2019-2023 de los estudiantes de la Facultad de Estomatología de Santiago de Cuba.  Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal en la Facultad de Estomatología del municipio Santiago de Cuba. El universo estuvo constituido por los 144 trabajos presentados durante el periodo de 2019-2023 en la jornada científica de la facultad, seleccionándose una muestra de 98, que se corresponde con los trabajos que resultaron premiados.  Resultados: el año académico más representado fue el 2do con 31 estudiantes (31,63 %). El tipo de artículo más presentado fue el Articulo de revisión con 44 investigaciones (44,9 %). El tema de investigación predominante fue Diagnóstico y tratamiento (63; 64,29 %), y la ayudantía de Estomatología General Integral (33; 36,67 %). Del total el 22,72 % (15) se encuentran publicados en revistas científicas.  Conclusiones: se caracterizó la actividad investigativa de los estudiantes de la facultad de Estomatología, se deben ejecutar estrategias y tácticas eficaces para lograr un incremento y perfeccionamiento de la actividad científica, lo que elevará el perfil investigativo del egresado.
