Abstract

A workshop was convened to address the current realities and challenges of supporting individuals with dementia to live fulfilling lives within their communities. Using the community meeting( CM) method, the workshop brought together residents, healthcare professionals, nursing students, and educators. Through collaborative discussions, nine key challenges were identified, with“ Being Open about Dementia” emergingas the issue of the top priority. Participants highlighted that the primary barriers to openness about dementia stem from a lack of community awareness and deep-rooted prejudices. To overcome these obstacles, educating communities about dementia was deemed essential. Furthermore, enhancing the accessibility of information on dementia-related consultation services was recognized as a crucial step. Proposed solutions included organizing educational sessions in familiar, convenient locations and simplifying pathways to dementia care services. The CM method proved instrumental in fostering a meaningful dialogue and building rapport among participants. The approach is expected to significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts toward creating a dementia-inclusive society at the community level.6othe
