Self-esteem and depressive symptoms in congregants of a Christian church in a district of Lima, 2024

Abstract

Esta investigación tuvo por objetivo analizar la relación entre la autoestima y sintomatología depresiva en congregantes de una iglesia cristiana en un distrito de Lima. De esta forma, se delimitó un enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, nivel correlacional, tipo básico y corte transversal; para lo cual se seleccionó a 169 congregantes entre varones y mujeres una iglesia cristiana del distrito de Santa Anita, a quienes se les encuestó con la Escala de Autoestima de Coopersmith y Escala de Depresión de Beck. Se halló una correlación significativa entre la autoestima y la sintomatología depresiva (rho=-0.65; p=0.00<0.05) de manera inversa y moderada; asimismo, la sintomatología depresiva se correlacionó significativamente de manera inversa con las dimensiones: sí mismo (rho=-0.61; p=0.00<0.05), social (rho=-0.36; p=0.00<0.05) y familiar (rho=-0.50; p=0.00<0.05). Se concluyó que los congregantes que presenten una mayor autoestima verán disminuido el nivel de depresión que podrían desarrollar.This research aimed to analyze the relationship between self-esteem and depressive symptoms in congregants of a Christian church in a district of Lima. Thus, a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, correlational level, basic type and cross-sectional were delimited; for which 180 congregants between men and women were selected from a Christian church in the district of Santa Anita, who were surveyed with the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale and the Beck Depression Scale. A significant correlation was found between self-esteem and depressive symptoms (rho = -0.65; p = 0.00 < 0.05) in an inverse and moderate manner; Likewise, depressive symptoms were significantly inversely correlated with the dimensions: self (rho=-0.61; p=0.00<0.05), social (rho=-0.36; p=0.00<0.05) and family (rho=-0.50; p=0.00<0.05).
