Pilate Washing His Hands : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

Abstract

This is a print from DAAP’s Teaching Collection, purchased at the request of faculty member, Christopher Platts. The collection is meant to be handled during classes and is housed in flat files at the DAAP. This is an early 16th century woodblock print cut from a text entitled “Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi” (The Passion of the Jesus Christ) by Matthias Ringmann, printed in 1506. The print is by Urs Graf, active in Basel from 1485 to 1530. This is from a series of 26 pieces created for the volume. This print features Pilate, seated, washing his hands before Jesus Christ was crowned with thorns. It is printed on laid paper and there is text from the volume on the verso of the trimmed leaf.View Item in DAAP Library Collection: https://www.jstor.org/stable/community.3502437
