This item is a cooking aid for “Plain Cooks and Maids-of-all-Work” as described in the preface and includes helpful cooking tips plus various recipes. It features a semi-limp, yellow cloth binding, that has the title, author’s name, publishing company, descriptive phrases, and decorative boarders printed onto the front cover, and an advertisement for Bryant & May’s Patent Safety Matches on the back cover. The cloth is lifting along the edges, revealing a thin printed waste board underneath. The text block is composed of gatherings sewn through the fold in a 2-up fashion, with trimmed edges. It features both text and small images of food and kitchen items printed in black ink onto a beige (2), medium (1), slightly textured (1) wove paper. The front flyleaf has a written inscription on it that reads “Margaret (?), 14’ May 1869”. This item was previously housed in a library pamphlet binding inside of an attached envelope, which was included with the item.View Catalog Record: https://cincinnatilibrary.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S170C162989
