The Contemplative Dimension of Sacred Music

Abstract

The article presents philosophical and theological aspects of the contemplative dimension of sacred music. The presented research aims to define contemplation’s role in sacred music and Christian spirituality. This synthesis allows for a better understanding of contemplation’s philosophical and biblical foundations in the reception of music and the creative process. Contemplation, as an essential element of the realization of the ethos of a musician, becomes an integral part of music, conceived as a way to encounter God.W artykule ukazano filozoficzne i teologiczne aspekty kontemplacyjnego wymiaru muzyki sakralnej. Celem przedstawionych badań jest próba określenia roli kontemplacji w muzyce sakralnej oraz w szeroko pojętej duchowości chrześcijańskiej. Dokonana synteza pozwala na lepsze rozumienie filozoficznych, a także biblijnych podstaw rozumienia kontemplacji obecnej nie tylko w odbiorze muzyki, ale także w procesie twórczym.
