Surgeons and Nurses Work in MGH Amphitheater c. 1885

Abstract

Two surgeons and seven nurses at work in the surgical amphitheater. One of the student nurses is giving anesthesia (ether) to the patient. Administration of anesthesia was taught as part of the curriculum at the MGH Training School for Nurses. Three additional nurses observe from the amphitheater seats.
