Software is everywhere, from cell phones to large military systems. According to the National Academy of Science [1], “... software is not merely an essential market commodity but, in fact, embodies the economy’s production function itself. ” The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) estimates that software errors cost the U.S. economy $59.5 billion a year and software sales accounted for$180 billion [2]. Software engineering education does not get the attention it deserves, even though it is crucially important to our economy.
